hey, does anyone know if the kenwood DDX7015 would fit in my 96 awd? (i have the infinity system if that matters) its a 4" double din size. does anyone have this unit in there dsm already? id like to see a picture if possible to see how fitment looks. any addition information or thoughts would be apprecaited. when i searched for "what fits" at crutchfield, it doesnt show up.

heres some specs: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productTypeId=37&sortBy=price&productId=2557

i was told by a shop that it would fit. search around i found some for like 900 i think brand new. i want that dvd player so ####ing bad. from i understand u have to bypass the infinity amps and what not. if u get it let me know how u like and get pic

i read on some car audio forum today that someone had it in there 97 rs. so im assuming now that it fits. i'm planning on spending my income tax return on it.

97~esi: where did you find it for 900? cheapest i've seen it for is $975. ive already got amps for my speakers/subs so ive already got the infinity amp bypassed. ill post pics/reviews when/if i install the unit.

it fits fine but you have to trim the plastic boarder thing(don't know what they are called) it comes with. I just cut the bottom section off plus a little. If you are auto it won't open with the car in park but thats not big deal because you can't see the screen with the big shifter in the way. Don't know how it fits on manuals. I have others that want pictures from me so i'll post some here also when i get them up.

Its got great resolution and looks aweasome playing dvds, my xbox and what ever else you could probably throw at it. It installs just like a normal cd player so you don't have to bypass the stock amp.

does it load mp3 cd's fast? my current kenwood loads pretty fast, but i know some can load terribly slow, and that would drive me nuts. is it pretty easy to use? what sort of eq does it have, it doesnt seem to mention much about it on the kenwood website. sorry to bombard you with questions, but no one locally has had one, not even shops. :thumbdown

i've never used a mp3 cd so i don't know what to tell you. As for as the EQ goes it doesn't having anything that most kenwood cd players don't have. Like you can chooose the freq and level for bass, mid, and low. But that is something i've seen just about every kenwood have. Once you get used to everything it is very easy to use. And plus the touchscreen impresses a lot of people.

what about this e-brake thing...?

from crutchfield.com:
Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the supplied 3-wire harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit, as well as a constant power source and ground. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus.

is this true? MUST you hook it up? you cant watch dvd's while your rolling? is there a way around it?

its a relay that supposed to hooked up to the ebrake that has a power/ground/ebrake wire coming off it. All you have to do is ground the ebrake wire that comes off the relay and you can watch the screen without having the ebrake on.

there are ways around everything in a car find out if the wire on the ebrake is power or ground...i have no clue which it is but its going to be switched then find another switched wire and hook the one off the radio to it or just pull the ebrake up one click when ur rolling (wont do anything to the breaks)

To everyone interested in the ddx7015 -

I had one installed in my 97, and absolutely hated it. It will sit at about a 30 degree angle, and you can't adjust the angle to where it's very viewable. Also, there is about a 1/2 inch lip around the screen which also reduces the viewing area. Overall, I just did not like the unit at all, and sold it within a week. I got an alpine ivad300 and love it, much more funcitonal, larger screen, and also touchscreen. Hopefully this helps, but as a person who actually had it installed, it's just my opinion.

Also, this unit does not have an external brain unit, so it installs like a regular head unit. In order to bypass the ebrake thingy, you don't need the electric bypass, but just ground it to a constant 12v source.

how to you ground to a constant 12v source??? just ground the ebrake wire off the relay. I never have a problem with seeing my screen. and it does sit at a light angle but its the same angle as your stock deck sits.
