Ok, Ive been fighting with this dsm for a long time and I feel like Im so close but I cant find out the problem. I took in the car to a local shop recently to get it smogged and the car seemed to do great aside from a high high number of hydrocarbons. Now I really have no idea what to do. The shop told me that the cat needed to be replaced along with the spark plugs, wires and maybe ignition coil.

Now, Ive already replaced the O2 sensor , changed the oil, spark plugs, air/mass sensor, throttle body, exhaust mani, turbo, and wires. Not to mention the cat looks like it was replaced before I bought it due to welding marks on the stock exhaust. Im pretty damn sure the egr sensor is in good working condition.

Is there anything whatsoever I can do to make it pass smog? I dont have any cels, and the car runs strong. Can I like weld three cats on to the exhaust for now just to make sure it passes? Ive heard of liquids you can buy to ensure that you pass smog but Im not sure if that would help.

If anyone can give me their word that they can make the car pass Id be more than happy to pay the cash.

I dont care if you know some guy who knows a guy that will pass it under the table. In fact, Id almost rather perfer that. LOL Im so desperate here. If anyone needs some extra money, you know you to go to.

if your cat looks recently replaced they might have replaced it with a high porformance or a straight flow through cat buy a oem cat and replace the one on the car. After it paces switch back

give the smog tester the $500.. Guaranteed to pass

I wish it was that easy. Everyone I talk to is way to paranoid about the state catching them.

I highly doubt it was replaced with a high performance cat. The car was 100 percent stock when I bought it from the old lady who used to own it.

weld 3 cats on your car LOL and then get it re smogged

actually dumb ass, that wouldn't work because not enough exhaust gases would come through to the sniffer and the exhaust would be full of air, and the high o2 levels of air will fail you because high o2 values tend to be the sign of a car with exhaust leaks, so no, putting 3 cats on your car would NOT work

Tstkl, be nice to the scammer. ROFL

Replace the cat. Heat that ####er up on the freeway before you test it, and use a bottle of that Guaranteed to Pass stuff.

Where is a good place to buy that guaranteed stuff? Does anyone have any input on it?

Its not like my car is failing by a minimal amount. The hydrocarbons are in the 400's IIRC. However, thats the only thing that failed on the test.

500 is alot to "gaurantee" pass... i went shopping around and asked diffrent guys "what will it take to pass my car"... ended up paying 175 for a "gaurantee" pass...took less than 20 min to get my paperwork...:thumb:

P.S .... j/k i made up this whole scenerio in my head ;)

go back to new england and tell tom brady he licks monkey balls!!!:notgood:

OP, ive heard that if you are replacing your cat to pass smog, placement is key. If you get it welded like 1 foot closer to the turbo side of the exhaust then it'll run hotter and work better, but the length of the life will be shortened. So you can get it welded closer to the turbo, then cut it off and run around nice and fast for 2 years until its smog time again!

Try the guarantee pass stuff too and let us know how it goes. I want to say they sell it at kragen.
