Ok, so here's the scoop, this past weekend I drove the 'ol eclipse to Lake Tahoe (about 2XX miles away) and for some snowboarding. If you didn't here, almost the entire northwest had a nice snowstorm, so it was very cold an icy. After about 450 miles or so my car overheated in 10 degree weather, my gauge jumped but I'll get a new thermostat in time, so we threw some water in there until we could get to a gas station. There first problem would be that after time, all the coolant in the car all but disappears with no visible leaks.
The next problem is that ever since then when I start my car, which is a little hard, it jumps to almost 3000 for a bit and a while later it'll simmer down to a surge between about 2200-2500 give or take, and slowly drop as it warms up but still surging.
At first I thought it may be caused by a dirty MAF sensor, so I cleaned it even though it was quite clean. You guessed it, problem not solved. I'll see about a new sensor.
And the overheat problem I may go ahead and say my head gasket may have partially blown.
Any help appreciated. Thanks
Will
