It's times like these when I wish i knew cars like the back of my hand. I'm not sure where this thread should belong but I have to let out a little steam afer my experience at the dealership. Basically here's their work order for the work needed to be done to my car.
1) Needs rear sway bar links, bushings, and struts. Control arm and assist arm bushings starting to crack on both rear sides--Total P&L =$600.
2) axle popped out. may need snap ring and will require pulling axle all the way out for a complete diagnosis. $255 to DIAGNOSE axle.
3) Turbo oil tube is leaking at oil pan. transmission output seal leaking and transfer case is seeping oil. Total P&L=$362.
I know there's supposed to be a recall on transfer cases but the dood said when he entered my VIN number the recall for my vehicle did not appear at all. I didnt have the mitsubishi phone number on hand so i couldnt complain without having my facts straight.

I am very aware these jobs need to be done. But i need to wait until a buddy of mine comes from vacation so that he could work on it. In the meantime I'm car-less for about a week now. Is it me or do those prices sound ridiculous!?

I wouldn't have them look at the axles. I'm not 100 percent familiar with axles, but I have read up on them and don't sound too hard to change. Plus you can buy a new axle for less than what they want to diagnose it. You have AWD, so maybe it is different, but www.raxles.com had them for much less than that when I looked. As for the other stuff, since those prices include labor it sounds reasonable... based on my experiences with the dealerships at least...

[off topic] Out of curiousity I just called Raxles. They were extremely friendly and informative over the phone. They even knew that 93's are a hard year to match axles for due to the "switch over". Quoted me $149 pr side for my 93 TSi with a lifetime warranty. [/off topic]

Yeah man you should definitely take your car to a reputable shop other than the dealership. We dont call em "Satan" for nothing!

Dealerships do suck! I called about a new 4 bolt rear end for a Talon, and they wanted $1600. I called my favorite Mitsubishi junkyard and they just wanted $200. I was a happy camper that day.

I had my dealership change my t-belt and water pump, they gave the car back with the timing screwed up... I turned it on heard the sound it was making, felt the viberations, turned it off and went back in and told them they did it wrong.... Yeah, they told me I was wrong, and that is actually my turbo because its blown.

Had it towed to another dealership had them diagnose it, called chrysler and the first dealership paid for the repairs. Idiots.

EDIT: the first dealership also told me the noise and viberations would go away if I put Techron in the next gas tank.... right.

Now thats just sad. Techron? Just sad...

Yeah, I'm sure we've all got some crappy stories. I try not to go to the dealership but I've had so many bad experiences with mechanics that were not DSM competent. I seem to be always stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would love to do more to the car on my own but I've got my own business that demands so much time from me. :(
