Hey guys and gals,
Well, here is my problem; I sucked up a big gulp of water through my AEM intake on my 97 eclipse GS, and it snapped off piston #1's rod and might have caused cylinder wall damage..maybe...I was only going like 10mph when she went under the water, but it messed it up none the less. So, what do i do? New motor? New bottom end? Can i fit a V6 avanger motor in her? HELP!!!!

You might be able to rebuild the motor, I don't know if you can salvage the cylinder wall or the crank. Honestly, a used 420A is so cheap, you might save some cash picking up a low mile used motor.

V6? Sure, it can be done. What are your requirements?

Well, i cant seem to find a 420a around here, so if anyone knows where i can get a good one let me know. V6 is really an option!? I have never heard of it being done before, so i just wanna know what you have to do to get it in there and get it going RIGHT. what about the 4g63t motor? i have heard that it is a kinda spendy swap and it takes time, but that is directed towards some one that wants turbo....i need an engine no matter what at this point. So is it worth it? HELP!!!

You can do anything to your car that you want to. How much work are you willing to do? How much money are you willing to spend?

If you need a running car, then buy a 420A and bolt it in. Everything else will take too much time and money if you need a driver. Which boneyards did you contact for a motor?

im pretty sure your also gonna need to swap trannys sinces the 4g's are hooked up on the opposite side (great thinking mitsu)

I checked all the main wreckers in spokane, the good ones atleast, all the crappy ones dont keep records of what has been pulled already, so ill just have to go to thoes ones and check my self. I also have been calling around to different JDM engine importing companies, (like 'Japan Engine Inc.' out of Ca.) and they have them for like 1.5k, is it worth it? But i for got to ask them as if they were actually 420a's, and not just non-turbo 4g63's....hmmm. I do realize that the 4g's are mounted the other way(yeah, thanks mitsi) but, but, but...the power! so i still dont know what to do, and it is my driver...well, it was...now i drive a 4x4 nissan...an old ass one....pimp shit!!:(

I dont know if japan had the 420a for theirs aswell, im trying to find out....hmmm, sounds strange that they would have a crystler motor over there.....huh, huh, Bush was in my town tonight

You might be able to get your insurance to cover it, if you're lucky. Mine didn't even send an adjuster to look at the vehicle, so they covered it. I didn't hide the fact I had a CAI, but I didn't exactly tell them either. Their fault for not checking.

You'll need a rebuild unless there's damage to the cylinder walls, crank, or anywhere else on the block. Just start looking for a new 420a.

A V6 swap isn't possible.
1- Lot of fitment issues
2- Rewire pretty much all your engine electronics.
3- Might have to redo your entire suspension.
4- Tranny won't bolt-up. You'll need a corresponding v6 tranny. Those don't fit either.

Oh, its possible. It is not easy, cheap, or beneficial... Possible though.

Almost any engine swap is possible. I think putting a v8 in a miata is a little bit more of a feat, and it's been done time and time again.

Same with v8s in fieros. Been done. A lot.

Reliable, predictable power. Grassroots Motor Sports magazine had a 1g Miata with a V8, it was cheaper per HP than a turbo on the 4 cyl...

there is a guy down here that has a v8 in a Miata......I was in a car meet and i heard it behind me, i saw a little miata and thought there was a GT behind him haha, then he moved up a little as i had moved up & i soon noticed it was him hehe
