sup, im new to dsm, although i have a few questions, thanx

1. I see that EVO engines in eclipses are getting quiet popular....is it a bolt on or someihtng? what would be the process of doing this?

2. If i have a gsx...engine crank walks...does the awd equipment mess up also or justw the engine....if it is just he engine can i upgrade to 6 bolt without changing/upgrading the awd tranny?

thanx

1. EVO I - III engines are the only engines that will work in DSMs. Yes, those are direct bolt-ins. Another common part that is used is the EVO III 16G turbochargers as a replacement for the DSMs' stock units, which can support about 375HP properly tuned on a well-built engines.

EVO IV+ engines are rotated 180*, and therefore most parts cannot interchange between DSMs because of this, even though it's the same engine code (4G63t).

2. No, I've never heard of crankwalk affecting the transmission. Yes, you can do a 6-bolt swap with the original transmission.

if u do convert to a 6 bolt, a 6 bolt flywheel will need to be used in exchange for the 7 bolt flywheel. as for vacuum lines, they are the rubber hoses running around the engine bay.

they create a suction vaccume and to have leaks will mess with ur idle and be annoying. But many things mess with 1g idles...but thats another story.

We are not lame ass Hondas that need to swap motors to make power. The only EVO engines that fit in out cars are the same thing you have in your car. They are all the same. Just spend the money on upgrades and enjoy it.

also...wat exactly are vacum lines...sry for the newbie questoins. thanx

Vacuum lines are usually used to turn things on or engage things. It's a cheap form of doing so without having to use electricity and electrical circuits. That's why on the 90 DSM they use electricity for the cruise control, but on the 91+, Mitsu used a vacuum line to control it (and it loves to break :p)

Other than the year of the car how can i find out what type of bolt it is? What do the bolts represent? thanx

Also can someone explain to me what vacum lines are in more detail etc?

btw im a newbie, thanx

Couldn't have said it better. The only reason you'd want a JDM engine is if your stock engine is trashed and non-rebuildable.

I answered the vacuum line question in the other thread.

6 and 7 bolt refers to the amount of bolts that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft. There are more differences between these two variations than just bolts, but that's the simplistic explanation. 6 Bolt was seen between 1990 and 1992 (ONLY until the manufacture date of mid-May 1992)

3 and 4 bolt refers to the strength of the rear viscous-coupling limited slip differential offered on most years of the DSM (some years you couldn't have ABS to get the LSD.) I Forget the exact location of the part that is either held on by 3 bolts or 4 bolts, but that's the difference. The 4 bolt part is bigger and the shafts are bigger on the 4 bolt, and that's why they're preferred. They're seen in 1992+ DSMs.

So the best year is a 1992 DSM that has the 6-bolt + 4-bolt (so some people say.)
