Okay this is my first engine build so sorry for the lack of experience question. i have searched for half an hour and cant find what im looking for.
i just want to know how to replace the rod/main bearings with the engien out. engine is out on a stand. picking up the crank (polished) from the machine shop later today, also picking up the resized rods.
what im asking is how to put the bearings in... do i just lay they in, put the crank ontop and bolt it down??? i dont think so?
i have searched and cant find it. do i need to oil them or anything?

i want to do this tonight... i want to get my crank, rods and pistons all in the block. have arp all around (headtuds, mainstuds, rodbolts)
let me know on how to do this.

can anyone give me a link to a diagram on to which bearing goes where?

sorry for the dumb questions, i searched a long time... even if someone can point me to a link where i can go.
thanks

pretty much just pop them in and torque it down. BUT while droping them in lube the bearings and crank with moly lube or assy lube aka all the same I think. they have to be well lubed before fully installed or you will spn a bearing in a hour.( figure of speach)

Did you ever have the bearing clearances checked? Its important that you do. And just apply oil or assembly lube on the bearing surface that contacts the crank. Never put oil on the back of a journal. Torque everything in stages in the proper sequence and you should be good.

So if i'm understanding this correctly, i clean all the surfaces (including the block) and apply only oil to the inside of the bearings? not anywhere on the outside? leave the outsides dry where it touches the rods? only lube where it touchs the crank?

That's correct. I can't remember if one or more of the main bearings have thrust bearings. I think they do. A thrust bearing looks different than the rest of the main bearings in that they have "wings" that keep the crankshaft from moving back and forth from the front of the engine to the rear of the engine. On the regular main bearings, only oil the inside of the bearings where they ride the crankshaft. On the thrust bearing(s), also oil both sides of the winds where it rides along side the crankshaft. Hope this helps.
