I need to replace the front windsheild on my 90 that we are redoing and put a new one in. I have NO problem with breaking out the already cracked windsheild. How would I go about removing the good windsheild off the other car?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Call up an autoglass place. Most of then will come out and do it right at your house/garage/where the hell the vehicles are.

yeah takin it out won't be that hard.. but puttin it back on is probably a job better left ot a professional. u can poke a hole through the rubber and have a like fishin line and stick it through the hole and carefully work the line and cut through the rubber... puttin it on.. go call a pro

I replaced the windshild on my old '90 eclipse and a couple of other cars. Here is how I do it.
Tools:
Piano wire (thin and strong)
two large box end wrenches
needle nose plires
pnumatic scraper (or had scraper)
New seal (from auto parts store, it is a ribbon of tar like stuff)
Rearview mirror adhesive (if you have to change your mirror over)

First, get a warm day. Too hot and you will make a tarry mess, too cold and it is more work then necessary.
Take off the trim around the window (sides, top and bottom)
Using the needle nose pliers. Feed the wire through the edge of the window (from in the car) till you can grap it from the outside. Tie each end of the wire around the box end of the wrenches (make easy handle).
Saw your way around the frame of the window till the tar is complelty cut.
Carefully lift out window.
Scrap old tar out of window frame
Clean frame with acetone, thinner or something else
lay "tar rope" in frame, overlaping end
Place new glass into frame.
Carefully press all around windshild from outside to seat in tar. Work your way around the window several time or you will flex the window too much and break it.
Once you have it sufficitly seated (you can see the tar spreading out) replace your trim and mount your mirror.

It isn't too hard just have to take it slow and easy.

Why not? People ask how to do other things on message boards, swap engines, paint interior, lower cars, change oil, etc etc.

I don't know how to help you but I just wanted to throw in a "go for it" post. I'm sure with the right instructions its not that hard. I don't think the folks at the local window shops are geniuses that have touched upon some greatness the rest of us can never have.

Good luck to ya!

i just replaced my winshield on my 92 eclipse and it cost $210 and thats with a new winshield and labor which i feel is really cheap they came right to my house and installed it to

Thank you for the info! This is my project and my dad after 26yrs finally decided to be a father and help with something. He has done body/engine/tranny work his entire life and says he knows how.

I posted this to see how close he was to how others would/have done it. The piano wire method is pretty much what he was going with. Its kind of a trust factor-its my money and his knowledge.

no offence...but in my opinion, someone who is asking how to replace a windshield on a message board shouldnt be attempting it themself

If you dont try something new to you, YOU will never learn. If the good window breaks in the process, its time for plexiglass! I learned engines from tearing down my 1998 GTP, had a lot of falures, but also a lot of fun and learned more than most people would in a lifetime.

One of the things you learn over time is that some things are cheaper to just pay for.

Yeh, good luck finding that formed plexi windscreen. And replacing it right after the wipers go across it. Once.

Still, it's not an impossible job. And if your dad breaks it, he'll be happy to help with the next one.
