What's up kids? I've an old pump lying around that I'm about to put into my car, just wondering if it would be safe to flush it out with gasoline like the IC or is there something else I should be using.

I wouldn't recommend using any type of solvent (like gasoline or acetone), since, if you corrode one of those seals, you're done for - and replacing those seals or installing new P/S parts isn't fun.

Flushing with ATF would be my suggestion - that's the fluid that Mitsu recommends be used in the P/S system. Just pump the clean stuff through the system until it starts coming out clean.

EDIT: well, re-reading it, I'm thinking you're talking about just the pump itself (I thought you meant you wanted to pump gasoline through the P/S rack and everything.) :D For that, I'm not completely positive. I'm not sure if the FSM shows the process for disassembling the pump and cleaning it - you could see if it does, otherwise I'd just try to get out whatever gunk I could by flushing the system with the pump installed with the method above.

LOL you thought I was gonna run gasoline throught my ps system, I thought I'm the one getting old. ;)
