how to clean 2g fuel tank

best way to clean out rust from fuel tank???car sat for 3 years and now needs a new fuel pump -I dropped the tank since it was so dirty full of rust and wondered if I could clean it out myself or should I take it to someone??

why is there rust inside your gas tank? I know it sat but the gas should have gone bad it shouldnt rust, i would empty the tank out (safely) put in some new gas and maybe some marvel, swish it all around, dump that (safely) and see how it looks. btw i base this on absolutely nothing
