How much timing advance is too much at low rpms?

With my current mods running the t25 I advanced my timing 1 degree from 3000-5500 rpms. I noticed a decent gain. How much timing advance would be to much for everyday driving car?

I noticed when I let my half brother drive my car for the first timing because I was sick he kept the revs up kinda high and I saw for moment that my egts where off the gauge almost for a good 10 secs or so. I think he was in 3rd gear around 3100 rpms or so, I'm not sure I was too busy looking at the egt gauge and wanting to tap it but it was slowly goin down so I stopped freaking out and didn't see it go that high again, the car was cold too so maybe it was running a little richer and burning the extra gas in the exhaust? :|

Anyways what would happen if I advance the timing to much? Is that how you spin a bearing?

DSMLink. I guess I should just posting more in there forum, just not as many people and I hate asking to many questions opinions there LOL

3100 rpm is not a high engine speed.

+1 degree is fine, although 5000 rpm is not a "low" engine speed.

A lot depends if there is no load, if you are still in vacuum i run as high as 37.5 btdc and have had no problems. you need to put up some figures (timing. boost or vacuum) for anyone to see and comment or is just guess work same as what you are doing now!

A couple of things.

First of all, "still in vacuum" isn't very indicitive of the actual load level. You need to be more specific about the load level, and the engine speed.

He's using DSMLink, which only does timing adjustments at each engine speed all the way across the board. He doesn't have the ability to adjust the advance different at different load levels.

At 3000 rpm, at the lowest load, I am running a maximum of 40 degrees of advance. At a 70 mph highway cruise, I see around 32-35 degrees of advance, depending on conditions.
