i was thinking about rebuilding my trans myself, its a 93 5spd, i believe i am able to do it, i am a motorcycle tech and i mean their transmissions are cake to me, i was just wondering if you guys think its worth trying or is it to involved? has anyone elese here rebuilt there own trans? if so how hard was it and how long did it take you? thanks guys

Sure, if you are mechanically inclined. You will need a manual as there's a few procedures it will help you with. You might as well replace all your synchros and every bearing in the transmission also.

I've done several and so far all have survived

Good Luck

Get yourself a nice hydraulic press from harbor freight (best price I found) and then get yourself as much literature about these transmission as you can.

A couple nice sized pry bars, lots of rags, and one of those galvanized steel trays you find at most auto parts stores a.k.a. drip pans to put the tranny on. There is a good half quart of oil left in these things when you put them bell housing down.

Get the output shaft out of it first so you can lay the tranny bellhousing down, level.

After rebuilding/exploring quite a few transmissions, it is still fun....kinda like xmas everytime something breaks. You find "stocking stuffers" laying around in there.

I hate bringing threads back from the dead. But i have been rebuilding my 1g AWD tranny also.

Well, attempting to anyway.

I referred to the CD factory service manual to get detailed specifications, disassembly procedures, and assembly procedures-- I get this:

Oh yeah, nothing about assembly and disassembly.

Does anyone have any other literature on rebuilds for the 1g AWD tranny?

Been to the vfaq, need more depth.
