car I got has 150,000km and the belt apparently hasn't been done. Needs to be done ASAP.

How hard is it to do myself? I am mechanically inclined but haven't worked on cars for ages and don't really remember most of the stuff. It would come back to me likely but should I bother trying?

It is not too hard, but it can be tricky. Luckily there are very detailed instructions on how to do it on VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions. You will definitely save some cash doing it yourself.

Check it out and see if you want to do it. I recommend buying all new parts, including an oem waterpump. Check out the vendors for package deals, get good quality parts you do not want to skimp with timing components.

good luck

i think hardest part is getting the 39 teeth on the cam gears......then just focus on getting the plunger pin on the auto tentioner correct....find a person in ## area to help out....

DON'T RUSH...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL DAY...TO DO IT RIGHT.

PLEASE USE OEM STUFF.... you can use gates or HKS BELT....but the pullys and auto tentioner are very important

i'd say it a 7 1/2 out of ten....ten being the hardest.

also think about a balance shaft delete....its some extra cash...and a lil bit of vibration...but it frees up some power and gets rid of the chance of the balance shaft belt snapping

It takes me about an hour to do one LOL... But I have done alot and I have a lift. Biggest tip is to get cam gears right then zip tie them so they dont move then work down the belt to the right.
