how does internal bov work?

I was looking in my intake and I saw what I thought was the internal bov tubing. I couldn't help but wonder why it was so crucial to use internal bov when it seems the wasted air is released in front of the maf, meaning the maf never accounts for it. And also when all the air is released into an open box doesn't some of the air just turn around and go back out the fiilter? If some body could explain further, thanks.
 
In order for the Air to get to the BOV it has to pass though the MAS first, therefore it is measured and accounted for and a certain amount of fuel is giving to it.. If that Air isn't dumped back into the intake the car will run rich because there is less air going into the motor then the ECU thought.

Oh crikey! Next time curiosity strikes you should remove your intake and stick a finger into a snail with the engine running. Tickle it.

Yeah what he said.

Air will never flow out through the filter. An engine is a big vacuum and will always be sucking in air. Now toss a turbo in the mix as it sucks in more air and you will see what I am talking about.

Actually at idle, every turbo I've seen has air coming out the inlet of the compressor. Btw, autronicDSM, I need to get in contact with you, I'm about to take mine to the dyno. My AIM is Mroadster84, like to talk to ya about some stuff :)

So how do you explainthe fact that at idle most DSM's produce 15-20 inches of vacuum. What youare saying is impossible. You are telling us that, at idle or any RPM for that matter, the motor is pushing air out the intake. No how, no way.

the only thing i can say for internal bov's, my 87 turbo Z has a pressure relief valve on the intake mani. The car only produce's a wapping 4 stock psi rating so nissan felt they didnt need a BOV like on our cars or most other turbo vehicles. The internal bov releases the pressure in the intake mani and recirculates it. DSM's have BOV's on the upper intercooler pipe. I hope all of you already knew that.
