Toronto,
First winter with the car and I decided that it's going into storage. Just wondering if you guys do anything to your cars before putting it to sleep? IE, drain gas tank, unplug the battery, give it a good wash etc.

You don't have to drain the gas tank unless you really just feel like it. You can just add a good fuel stabilizer and yes unplug the battery.

Keep the cold in mind.

If you normally use block heaters in your area, I would suggest maybe draining the radiator and engine block to avoid freezing, and put the battery inside the house.

Anything else in the car that you don't want frozen or possibly stolen, put it away.

She's going into my garage, theft isn't an issue, but I will heed the advice and drain the rad, and store the battery indoors. Should I have to drain the oil too? I just did an oil change not too long ago before I decided to put her to storage. :notgood: I guess I could be cheap and reuse the oil :toobad:

Dont drain the gas tank. Fill it up to the top and use a good fuel stabilizer. If you drain the tank, moisture can accumulate and cause the tank to rust on the inside. A full tank of gas insures this wont happen.

the best way to prepare your car for the winter is to

1: move to california

2: enjoy your dsm

but ya make sure you drain the radiator, cuz if its waterbased antifreeze then it will freeze and expand causing holes to be made in your system....

This is how I prepared my car for winter storage this year...Sold my 2g FWD...Got a 1g awd...and drove my happy ass to Arizona from Iowa.
