I've seriously been thinking about changing the interior of my car from that ugly grey to a good black. I love black interior, but I don't know how to chang it ALL to black. I know how to get like my door handles and arm rest vinyls painted, but is there anyway to get the whole dash painted black?

There sure is... you can easily paint your whole dash. The whole thing comes right out after unbolting the necessary stuff. Some more daring individuals even paint their components right in the car.

Make sure you get good vinyl paint and prep each piece according to the paint manufacturer's directions.

I would also occasionally search junkyards, looking for stock black interior pieces to make your conversion go a little easier. Good luck.

Here is a tech article on removing the dash. It requires some time, but, by all means, it can be done.

Reference this tech-article area for articles on how to remove/install or paint various interior pieces.

I was about to do the same thing. Do a search on painting interior. You'll find good results and a thread on buying black carpets. Go to ebay for that IMO.

As for paints, make sure you prep the surface and then paint in an area where dust won't be a problem

As for recovering, get a spray glue (3m 90 works well) and take your time it will come out beautifull

Then, take pics and post them :thumb:

You can buy carpet/vinyl paint at wal-mart or autozone. This stuff actually works good, i used it on my own car. This can also change your grey carpeting to black so that you dont have grey carpet with all black interior, and it still keeps its texture, doesnt get all crispy after being painted.

There is a guy/shop out of Miami that sells black interior parts on Ebay. Don't bother with him, he scammed me out of a lot of money. He's only got a good seller rating cause people are buying common knowledge info on how to do a 420a turbo kit for a$1 a pop and giving him good reviews.

I'm still going black on my interior as well but am going to have to repaint several things because I didn't like how they turned out.

I found it impossible to find an all black interior at a local junkyard, and it bugs me to know that the true color of the interior isn't really black. You could do what I do and search eBay for black items. I have my black leather seats, dash, and all the panels. The only thing I'm missing is the black airbag cover. Trust me, it takes a lot of patience for black parts to show up on eBay though :coy:

hey man check out my gallery.... i did the conversion from grey to black. and i love it... this is what i did.... First i ordered some black racing seats. which is no problem you can get them anywhere on the internet its up to your taste... i got it all black... then i went to accmats.com and ordered a black carpet and black mats... i got that bad boy and ripped my seats out and then ripped the rug out and put the new one in and also with the seats... then I got SEM spray paint.... this SEM paint is the best i ever used and my local auto interior store that does stuff like this told me to use SEM. This spray paint doesn't spray like those pep boys paint and all... it does a A+ job :thumb: ... I ordered flat black. i did my center consol, my two door panels and the two side panels on the side of the center console.. it came out great... just make sure you clean whatever you are paining with rubbing alcohol so the paint gets on there good. now the hard part the dash... i didnt want to paint it because i know its a bi*** to take it out and put it back in without any scratches. i know if i painted my dash that when i was going to install it back onto my car i knew i was going to ruin the pain because its a pain in the culo to put it in.... so i just got a black dash from a local junk yard and put it in. ripping the dash out and putting the black one in took me about 4 hours... its a pain but well worth it... check my pics out.. any questions let me know.

I sprayed everything down with brake parts cleaner and wiped it clean with a lint-free rag. I didn't want to sand away the texture of the dash and I wanted it to keep the OEM look.

I used Dupli-color vinyl/carpet dye with no primer or clear-coat. Matches the OEM look perfectly and its held up just fine in my car.

Check my gallery for pics; I've since added OEM black leather seats to complete everything.

Thanks; I have full confidence that it will hold up just fine. I did it towards the end of last summer, and its held up just fine since then but I have no real experience in the heart of summer.

This is true. Take a look at my gallery for more detail. I too had that god awful grey interior. The last to go with that horrible carpet. I went to accmats.com for that. However, I wouldn't suggest that place. instead of send me the carpet already cut to match like it was supposed to be, they just sent me a big block of black carpet LOL. Not really hard to trim the carpet, but it's the principle of the thing.

Id love to convert my grey interior to black, but did you have a horrible time trying to find a black interior? Isnt the avenger interior the same as the eclipse?

yes for the most part minus the rear surrounds

I purchased a black carpet from ACC mats. It las like 140 shipped i think. Very nice peice, little trimming to do, but very happy with it. I painted my entire interior with a vinyl paint. Sprayed it right out of a gun. I first used some bullydog spray adhesive. Holding up great.

*Small Update*

I went ahead and painted a few pieces black just to see how it looks. I think it looked good and has held up for a few weeks in the Houston heat/humidity so I think I go ahead and paint the rest (dash, center consol, and pillars). Here's a few pics

Yup! I bought the driver side. :D

I have a black driver side one for sale with the Talon logo in the classifieds.

one thing i suggest, if you're doing something that big, (by big i mean the whole interior) why don't you try dyeing it, the results will hold up much longer
