How a HKS SSQ WORKS

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I was going to post this exact same article. Thanks for saving me some time. I think it helps clear up some of the ideas and myths about the HKS SS bov. At least it puts HKS's spin on it anyways.

Well, for us non-MAF users like myself, the HKS SSQV is the best designed BOV ever.

I love my SSQV wouldn't trade it for anything.

The TiAL valve is also a nice piece, but for my application (Occasional auto-x, part throttle racing) its as the article suggests, "Sluggish" at low pressure and part throttle conditions.

BTW the adjustment screw is there to be able to adjust the stiffness of the small valve, under the surge point of whatever turbo you have. Sometimes a bigger turbo then a 16g such as a 50-trim, will have a different adjusment of surge point then a 14b turbo.

I mean , nothing just bolts-on and works, gotta be able to tweak it a little! :thumb:

Did you get Modified magazine's permission to reproduce that page? If not, you could possibly be in some sort of copyright violation.

Very uncalled for. I am the damn monitor. :|

In any case, if you don't have permission, we'll be deleting it. Let me know.

Noones getting bent out of shape, it's legal reasons. Regardless of whether it says modified mags name anywhere it's still from the mag and can't be used without their permission.

I understand, but modified mag gots bigger problems than suing website whom give them free publicity :p

I'm glad you know your stuff.

But you know what? its not about lawsuits at all.

It's about props.

In hip-hop, if you sample someone else's work, you thank them.
You show them some respect.
And most of the time you will get shown love in return, unless your Paul Mcartney or Metallica.

The people that "Bite", and especially those that bite, AND not show props usually get no love at all.

You are biting.
Not only that you gave no props, and now your getting shown no love.
Its pretty simple! :thumb:

Best thread evar!!

No really......there is some creative shit talking going on  :p

By the way "ITSME4g63" you can find the working of an hks ssqv, guess where!?

THE HKS website!!!

So not only are you biting modified, your biting HKS's diagrams, w/o even adding your point of view, or more info, or nothing.

Thanks for...well something we already knew about the whole time.

Hopefully this tread dies, its a shame that someone that post's the likeness of such a high quality race product such as the HKS ssqv, and goobs it up with a bunch of arguments.

Seriously guys, why are we jumping on him? He simply posted something up expecting it to be beneficial to the community, and we are jumping on him as if he was a theif. We all have at some point brought in something from somewhere, as he pointed out pictures of the AMS evo, which should be the same exact idea, posting without authorization, so why jump on him as if he were the sole one to ever do it. Take the stuff down if you want, thats fine, its not my site, but dont jump on a fellow DSMer who simply was trying to display information he thought was interesting.

guess what holmes, I didnt know it was on the hks webiste, I like hks parts but just trying to look at the site makes my wallet cry so I dont bother. I do have a ssq myself, I've made a tech artcile on how to recirculate it if you wanna see, maybe Ill get sued for that too :)

Oh just close the thread..... :barf: Buncha' grown cry babies... And anyhow, he's using the article as a reference and not taking credit for somebody else's work. Did you learn about PLAJORISM IN HIGH SCHOOL? THAT my friends would be illegal. :thumb:

The HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve (SSQV) is a dual stage pull-type relief valve. Unlike typical push type blow-off valves, the SSQV will not leak under any level of boost because the boost pressure in chamber "C" keeps the valve closed against its seat (Diagram 1). The SSQV releases excess boost when there is a pressure alteration in chambers "A & B", not by the rate of boost pressure or vacuum in the line. This ensures a quick valve response and complete closure during idle. Many competitors use a push-type blow-off valve design with a large valve to accommodate high boost / high horsepower applications. These large valves react slowly and require high pressure to open, and are not able to activate and prevent compressor surge at light-load conditions. On the other hand, smaller, fast reacting push-type valves do not discharge the airflow capacity required for high horsepower applications and tend to slowly open and leak as boost pressure overpowers the spring. For maximum performance, the HKS SSQV incorporates both a small primary valve for ultra quick activation, and a larger secondary valve for additional discharge capacity. The SSQV is engineered to initially open the small primary valve at light throttle and load conditions (Diagram 2), then sequentially opens the secondary valve for additional relief capacity under high boost and load conditions (Diagram 3). The SSQV is constructed of polished billet aluminum, which ensures long-term durability and a high luster look. The mounting base utilizes a circular mounting flange that combines with a C-clip snap ring and O-ring gasket to insure an excellent seal. The triple-fin discharge port design produces a powerful, unique and aggressive blow-off sound.
