I finally got around to getting a new flange for my BOV so I could relocate it so that I may recirc it. I also bought the 1'' adapter from HKS so that it will accept a 1" hose. I haven't figured out what hose I'll need that'll route right, but even though it's still atmospheric, the sound has totally changed. Not that I care, but I'm worried I reintalled it wrong. It still has the HKS flutter, but the high-pitch sound is gone. Does anyone know if the recirc piece does this? I hope this is normal, because I like the new sound, I just don't want it to be compressor surge.

Thanks, guys.
Reggie

what causes the high pitch sound is the original three blade star-ish fitting you had to take out in order to put in the recircd tube

Ah, yes, the "air fin" or whatever they call it. :D I thought that might have been the case, but I wasn't sure at all. Thanks, man!

for a good laugh heres what i did, i just left the bov alone and slap this elephant trunk thingy on. its only temporary but itll do for now. the high pitch sound went away though.

Fab up some metal tubing, get it bent at a shop or something. You'll keep quite a bit of the BOV noise.

haha that is pretty funny tubing but better than venting . If you got to a hardware store in the sink department they have chrome aluminum piping that matches the size of the flange you have. It's already bent in the right places too. It was like 2 bucks when I got it and it looked great.

haha thats hilarious with those zip ties. i wish their is a way to keep the sick hks sound when u recurc it

Is that an inline fuel filter going from the crank vent to the intake?

Ya...buy a MAFT blowthru setup, get killer spool time, able to mild base tune and you get to vent. :thumb:

Does it actually work to keep the crap out of the intake system like the catch cans? If so, how effective is it in comparison?

i had one but took it off cause when oil would build up it would shoot into the intake pipe and cause me to blow some pretty crazy (and scary) exhaust smoke. I thought my car was messed up until i realized it was that.

i have no side affects. i would change it when the oil starts to soak more than 1/3 of the filter.

The fuel filter catch can will work basically as good as a normal catch can, only catch is you have to replace it more often as the filter itself won't stop oil from passing through so you need to replace it before the oil level is high enough to run through the outlet. On the tiny filters this would happen fairly quickly but the larger ones like the pic above is a fair size & I would imagine you could run it for a good amount of time before it collects enough oil to pass through the outlet.

Something that I found to work well (& used before I got a JM Fab unit), fairly cheep, holds more oil & is reusable is the small water seperators that they use on compressors. I picked up the small one which is about 1" diameter by 3" high & was ~$35 CDN from Home Depot. All I did was just remove the internal filter, screw in a couple brass barbed fitting, then you have a nice sealed catch can, that acts like the factory setup.

i recirculated my hks with rubber radiator hose and i could swear it is just as loud as it was vented

That's odd. Mine sounds like comprosser surge now. It's pretty wierd. I get nervous when I get on it. But I think comprosser surge keeps on making that noise even after the throttle plate is reopened, right? Now, as soon as I give it gas again after my shift, the noise goes away instantly. It acts like the BOV is working properly, but sounds so much like surge to me. I'm so confused! How can I tell if it's either the HKS BOV flutter, or surge? There's has to be a sure-fire way to tell. I feel like such a newbie! :sosad:
