As of right now i have a full 3inch turboback exhaust with a test pipe, but i have emissions testing in february. I have decided to get a high flow cat and keep it on the car for good. Fines in NJ are up to 10grand if you dont have one, so losing a couple hp is better then losing a nice chunk of loot. I would like to hear from some of you who are using a high flow unit. What kind and are you happy with it or not? Did it dramatically quiet down the car? Did you ever have an emissions check and you still failed? Which converters are better to use and rob the least amount of power? Exhaust depot sells a 3inch cat for 85 bux, i'm leaning to that due to price. SBR has a nice magnaflow for sale for 150 i believe and magnaflow is a reputable company. Any input is appreciated.

on my old talon i had a 3" high flow cat. I thought it helped deepen the sound, no sure how much power it robbed because i never ran without it; but it was way better than the stock exhaust. I was able to pass emissions in CT with it. The one i used was catco brand, made for a dodge ram(up to 5.7 liters). If i remeber it was like 90$. I was very happy with it.

You should still pass the test with no cat since you are AWD they can't put the car on the rollers. so they just rev the motor so there is no load on it. Thats what they did to mine and it passed with flying colors and I have no cat.

but 2gs have obd2 which monitors the cat with the 2nd o2. your car has drb which wont set a cel without the cat. Our cars will automatically failling your car. catco are 50 state legal so Id go with them

You won't necessarily get a CEL without a cat on a 2G. I didn't.

hey i live in california and we have just about the most strict smog laws... and all my friends with dsms swear by not having a cat... i had a 3" exhaust on my talon awd for hella long and then i started getting boost creep so i put a cat on and it helped the creep a little but as far as sound level... i feel that my exhaust is a little quieter and i feel like my top end power was robbed a little but nothing was very noticable.... i still beat every car that i could beat before in a race spoolup time is still about the same so pretty much it doesnt really make a difference untill you are making a whole lot of power... but with the power potential that these cars have, you should be able to make up that lost 5hp in just tuning or something....
go to ebay i got a catco 3" high flow cat shipped for like $40 bucks... not really sure if its actually high flow, but it works damn fine for me...

just get the cat and save the $10,000.. thats the way i thought of it, if you dont have a cat on your car they will fail you on the visual part of the smog before they even do a tailpipe test

I have a cat-eliminating downpipe. I got a 3" in/out catco cat from summit for about $50, chopped off a section of the downpipe, and used some stainless steel clamps. I never ran the car without a cat, so I can't comment on the difference.
