i have a factory 3 piece spoiler from an eclipse, and i want to put it on my laser! i have pretty much all of the mounting hardware, but REALLY dont want to drill holes in my trunk. So, would using some really good double sided autobody tape work? also, i need some detailed pics of how it should look, mainly how the spacing between the three should be, and generally how it should look up close. thanks for all the help!!

Tape might work, but i personally wouldnt do it. you might piss off the car behind u when it dislodges at highway speeds :D

I am working on the same thing for my '91 laser. Dealership did not recommend tape. Good factory shop manual shows most of the mounting hardware, except what the rear mounting bolts screw into.

I have all the clips EXCEPT the ones that the rear bolts go into. These are the bolts that mount from underneath the hatch, and go into the spoiler.

Does anyone have a pic of the clips that attach to the spoiler, that the above mentioned bolts screw into??

As soon as I get all the parts, I plan on documenting my install. This seems to be a popular subject!

:laser: ;)

IMO the Factory installation design & hardware is pure crap - Many of us have had to re-do the whole deal - Doubleback Body shop tape would be every bit as solid as the factory Crap IMO. I already had holes as it came w/ spoiler so I just re-engineered the mounting sytem & attaching hardware with Shock Absorber Washers , Shock Absorber Rubber Grommets & Allthread - Far more solid than the Plastic POS crap they come with.

It would be great if you could share your setup..........got any pics?

ya gogo with pics! i need some so i can space everything correctly. :thumb:

Sorry - no pix - but if you had some assorted Shock Absorber Washers (they are big O/D with a small I/D bolt hole) , Shock Absorber Rubber Grommets / Bumpers & Allthread trust me it would come to you... I honestly think that the real Body Shop Double Sticky Back Tape would be fine.

i think it will work good too. i really dont want to drill holes in my baby :p but now all i need is some pics of one already on a car so i can get a good idea of the spacing and placement so it doesnt look all retarded.

Going to visit the dealer today to check on parts.

A couple of things I had considered on the tape. Your in Idaho and I am in Ohio..............cold weather, tape might not like it!! I was looking at my spoiler last night, and there is not a very good perimerter edge to tape too. It is very narrow. Of course, you could make "pads" of tape to stick it too where the original mounting points are. I just have visions of the darn thing flying off the car!! Especially the side pieces!!

Make sure your remove all of the wax on your car before you tape. The manual shows a 3M 6383 I believe for the tape. They use it on the side skirts too, along with screws.

As far as your spacing and stuff. I have ck'd out another eclipse with the same spoiler.

Trunk Piece:

The curved front should line up with the window molding. On the car I looked at, it overlapped some. Matching this line with the other two peices will be the trick I think.
The sides line up with the edges of the hatch, of course.

Side pieces:
Also from what I can tell, should also line up with window molding. On the car I looked at, they lined up with the molding in the rear, but fell low on the sides, just did not look right. In addtion, if can line up on the molding some, it might seal that edge a little better.

I think I will use tape to preset it, then make a template, and then, ugghh, drill some holes. LOL Also factory diagrams show plastic inserts that go into the body, then the screws go into those. You can find these at a hardware store. Going to glue mine in, to help seal from leaks.

I know it going to be a long, tedious job, but just going to take my time, get eveything right and ready, then, DRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.

:D :laser:

let me know how your spoiler installing goes! and ill let you know on mine
