Help on a car choice..

I looked around and decided to post this here. I'm sorry if this jsut really dosn't fit in.
I know professionals are to be found here so I decided to ask here....


I've done enough research on my own. But heres just my truthful background, first.

I'm 15, yet to get my license (obviously) and just recently will be getting my permit. Racing has been all I could think about since the day I was born. Track racing is my destiny. It's all I think it's all I talk about. No one races excluding my father who does stockcar 1/4 dirt-track racing.

But I'd rather not drink beer and be a hillbilly at a dirt track. I have more in mind. (Not steryotyping here ) but you have the idea..

I don't have much money. But I'm stuck to decide what indeed would make best of an auto-cross/circuit track car.

I was looking at the '98 Eclipse, the 2G and I think I'm about final on what I want now. I'm obviously new to everything. But damn, it's goal in life. Tell me why maybe this wouldn't be the greatest for circuits/courses. I have alot more questions but I'd rather PM them instead of cluttering up the boards. If anyone is willing to take some time to help me, that would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any statistics on what would make for a decent DSM track car, please just let me know or PM me. Thanks again for your time reading.

If I was a company, why would I sponsor a 15 year old who doesn't even have a driver's license or a permit? Think about it?!

It takes a LOT of time and money to build a track car. I am being honest here, you are 15. Building a track car should not be your goal in life. Going to school should be your goal in life right now. I am not saying, don't do it. I'm saying do it, not right now. Wait a few years but don't give up on your dreams and goals in life.

And I'd go with a 1G (90-94) instead of a 2G (95-99), if you decide to do this.

you can go with the cheaper and more affordable platform of a 1g which would be the

eagle talon
Mitsubishi eclipse
Plymouth laser

90-94 I would stick with those years

you would be able to make decent amounts of power on yet a really good budget. check out the tech section of the website along with the classifieds you might be able to find someone local that happens to be selling a 1g DSM. till you have the chance keep checking on the website for more knowledge. you can never have enough. search for the following and learn about it.

fuel injector size, turbo size. heat soak, SAFC tuning, MAF, Venting to the air.

that's a few that will help out. I suggest get your knowledge then strike hard when your old enough to put it to work..

I agree strongly. Get a 1g.. they look great, and perform well in stock form. I would leave it stock until you have more experience and knowledge... then later (when you're 17 or 18) mod it to the track car you really want.

Ok I want you to think of this, the car you get will pretty much need to last you through college. I have a 2g but I didn't get it untill I turned 18. Whatever car you go with should be reliable, and easy to mantain. If you try to go with a 500whp daily driver you'll be takin the bus to school ALOT! I'm with everyone else get a 1g, insurence is cheap(er), it will cost less to get, and of course thier good cars. Not to mention that over time with the right ammount of $$$ most 1g's I know can blow the doors off of 2g's and anything else. Most of all Good Luck if you get a DSM try the free mods and save your $$$ and slowly build up your car.

Definitely get a 1g to play with. If you start modding it, you should also get a cheap beater to drive around cause your 1g modded turbo will give you tons of problems.

Having driven both types of DSM'S, 1G's and 2G's, for your purpose I would for sure get a 1G. 2G's are good for looks and speed but as far as handeling, and since you will be autoxing you need to handle well, I believe the 1G is far superior to the 2G.
