My friend had a sixbolt swap done to her car. then later had a 1g head installed on top of the six bolt block. When she had the head installed she had then replace the extremely modified 2g timing belt cover with a 1g timing belt cover. We had let them know that they needed to modify it to allow clearance for the larger engine mount.

There modification consisted of breaking it into three peaces and using 7 of the i think 11 bolts to tighten the cover down. needless to say a lot of crazy noise was going on. So I decided to pull the timing belt cover off and replace it. Come to find out there is slack in the bottom of the timing belt and I am having it took back to them. But there still arguing with me over the timing belt cover saying that you have to pull then engine apart to put the thing on.

also they claim there is no way possible for the timing belt to be loose and that its the timing belt cover rubbing the surface of the belt. Its the raised threads from the oil pump that were rubbing the timing belt. I seen it last night, Thats how much slack it has. they said they bought a special tool to do the timing. I never new one existed Ive seen timing done on a dsm alot and never seen a special tool used. Does anyone have any idea which tool it is.

Is there a how to on the timing belt cover with pics somewhere it would be nice to disprove these altezza installing jerks.

on a 1g in a 2g there is no special tool, that is probably why they had problems.

IF you try to use the special tool it doesn't line up right because of the 2g motormount and 1g arm. You have to remove the tensioner and SLOWLY compress it in a vice and then stickthe grenade pin (or substitute) back in.

And yes you can remove the T-belt cover IF you remove the threaded studs that the mount attached to from the top. then you can get the alloy part out of the way to remove the cover. You need to hack up the studs a bit so a socket can grab them.
here are some pics I just shot for you of how mine were modified...and yes I still need to put the covers back on. I wanted to wait until 3k miles to make sure there were no leaks of any sort.

ON be aware there are 2 slightly shorter bolts that are used on the pan belowthe belt for clearance. The otherones will barel y touch there, and you will get little lines on the backsdie of the belt from the contact.

Hope i helped.

I'm talking about the lower timing belt cover (plastic.) obviously it needs to be modified to fit the 2g engine mount. does anyone have pics of that. l just really would like to find something to throw in there face and say this is how its suppost to be done, not broke into three

and i know about the timing belt except I'm just really confused on the special tool they used. i hung out with some guys that owned a shop in the California bay area. I seen him do timing like a million times and never did he use a special tool. He was also on everytime he did it. so i was just wondering if anybody knew what tool they spoke of.

You jsut cut the hole out bigger. and shave where needed. I got mine for free b/c it was broken in 3 pieces too so I haven't bothered modifying it yet

As far as the special tool, yes it exists. It goes thru the mount, but no hobbyist I know actually has one. And on the 1g ina2g you can't use it because it won't match up right. MAybe that was there problem, trying to do a t belt by reading directions that say put x tool here and do this instead of knowing how to do one.

Actually I made the tool using allthread and locking two nuts together and it worked barely. If you do like they say to and use a countersunk bolt on the water pump. The tool will hit the arm just barely enough to push it down, I only got to put it in and out about 5 times before I had to make a new one, but it is possible to use it. I have my engine on the stand still and I cut the cover last night, probably shouldn't have done it drunk but no one will see it. I didn't have to modify the 2g mount at all either, I'll post pics up in like 5 hours when my roommate gets home so I can use his camera.
