Head gasket failure (How did coolant get there?)

Ok I think this is a bad head gasket. I smell coolant under heavy boost. 6 bolt swapped 1 week ago. I checked all the head studs. They are all torqued properly. While I was doing this I noticed there was coolant pooled up inbetween the exhaust gasket and head. How the hell did that get there? WTF... How could i mess it up that bad?

Is it definitely the head gasket or can coolant be spraying out of something else.

Do a coolant system pressure test. You can rent them fairly cheap at Autozone. It'll show you exactly where your coolant leak is without the guesswork.

Do you happen to know off hand if they rent leak down testers? Thanks in advance.

I know my local Schucks and Autozone both rent leak down testers. Just call them and they will let you know if they do or not.

Autozone has them and i think its a rent a tool too.

Did you have a broken exhaust manifold stud and had it drilled and retapped?. Reason is i had a customer with a 2g with the same problem,some dude drilled into the head to remove a broken stud and went too deep,and that was the out come.

Coolant runs through the head gasket along side the pistons. If the head gasket fails, coolant can leak over to the pistons. If you know your head gasket is failing get it replaced before your engine hydrolocks.
