Ok I just swapped my six bolt with a built 7 bolt with internals and It's a 2.4 now. Before the swap the car has never seen a tune nor has it had any significant mods done to it. Now I've installed, besides the motor, t3/t4oe turbo, fuel lab afpr, 255 walbro, 1000cc precision injectors, and Aem cam gears. Obviously, the car won't run without a tune. It's a 98 so I'm hoping to do the reflashed just to save some money. My question is, how long do you guys think it would take to have this car tuned with the reflashed (hours)? Is there any questions I should ask the tuner before my car is strapped down? Would getting it chipped be a better alternative? If so how do I go about this? Need advice asap as things should be getting wrapped up with the car. Thanks guys

IMHO with the increase of displacement a reflash is not the best option. But a good tuner should be able to knock it out in a few hours. just make sure everything is good and sound ie...Boost leak test, wiring, and proper fuel pressure setting.

Why do you say the reflash isn't the best option? What doesn't it have that link has that would effect a good outcome of this tune?

eh a reflash would be fine. It does take a couple hours to work out all the kinks, getting MAF dialed in, AFRs matching WBO2, Fuel trims zeroed out, but it can be done. I have done it before.

I don't know to much about the reflash or tuning in general, but its one of the perks of having the 98 99 ecus so I figured I would utilize it.

Same here, right now I have a 95 eprom ecu in my car with a keydiver chip but this was on my old setup with a evo III 16g, 680cc inj, walbro 255. I recently got a 98 ecu thats flashable and I now have a 20g turbo, 1000cc inj, and 272 cams. Since I have a 98 ecu Im definitely trying to utilize the reflash.

I'm still waiting for a shop to tune it but will the increase displacement be a big issue? Having a hard time finding a good tuner out here.

DsmLink is just baller compared to re-flash. But I doubt there would be an issue, just quicker spool, more power. Any good tuner should not have an issue with a stroker motor.

If I were you, I wouldn't skimp on the tuner. Find a local guy, or someone off the forums or a reputable tuner shop that can do work on that thing. Tune is crucial. Hopefully you have enough dough for that.... cough $500+ cough.

If you want cheap, chip it. Otherwise get your racks out & pay the toll.
