Has anyone used a dsmchips.com reflashed 98/99 ecu?

I was wondering if anyone has done it yet and how well its working for them. Jeff O. from dsmchips.com messaged me last night and asked if I wanted to use one of his reflashed ecu's. I want to do it but I want some feedback first.

I'm about to get my ecu chipped when I get the mulah for it. From what I have heard it is badass! Tons of people run a chipped ecu nowadays since it is basically your car tuned for whatever size injectors you want and he adds some goodies on there also like studderbox, NLTS, stock boost guage as knock count etc etc. Trust me you will love it!!

^^^^^well the advantages of flashing are very obvious, you wouldnt have to get a chip everytime you make an upgrade, just make changes on your map and flash the ecm(ecu) to accomodate changes, also you can use the ceddymods, he(ceddy) has made a ton of progress on mods that can be used with our ecms.

All of the points you listed are invalidated by the fact that the OP is interested in a box tune from Jeff over at dsmchips.com.

I would never discourage someone from learning to tune on their own and IMO the learning curve for a flashable ecu is steep but not insurmountable. That said some people are just better off getting a tune from Jeff and calling it a day. Jeff has tons of experience and by all accounts is incredibly helpful to his customers and it appears to people who aren't his customers as well.

Just rec'd the 98 ECU with the flash on it, and it seems t work very well!!! I am having some other issuse with the new injectors, but Jeff has gone above and beyond the call of duty for me!!! He is freakin awesome!! Reasonable prices to.

Well, one of my flash customers published a really glowing blog a week or 2 ago on here, but its gone now.

Oh believe me, I know. I much prefer flashing over chipping.

I swapped an Evo 8 ECU into my car so I could flash it. Shortly there after, Ceddy started making progress on the 98/99 ECU. I've been flashing my car before flashing DSMs was cool. ;)

But like Mork mentioned, he's just looking for an out-of-the-box tune. The results you get from either a chip or a flash are exactly the same. It's essentially the same code.

Thanks guys for all of your input. I was planning to get a base flash from Jeff and then reflashing it myself later after I learned how to use ceddymods. And Jeff, can you send me an update to my flash like in an e-mail or something for me if I got a new part like injectors once I get a 2.0 cable?

??? The title says flashed ecu??? He does want to go that way, not sure what you are talking about. and I DO agree that Jeff is nothing but helpful

Jeff sells boths chips and flashes. In this case the OP is asking for information about an ecu that has been flashed with Jeff's tune on it as the OP does not even have an openport 2.0 cable. While you obviously have done some reading and know a few things you are either completely unfamiliar with this product or you are not reading this thread carefully enough. Either way you are disseminating information that can be confusing to newer members because it is for the most part off topic and in some part wrong.

BTW Jeff, just to satisfy my own curiosity since I seem to be seeing a lot of questions about your products lately, do you do email tunes and are your flashes locked?

I have no idea what the heck mork is trying to say but if you go on dsmchips.com and click on 98/99 flash upgrades you will see that Jeff will send you a pre-flashed ecu in which you would install on my car and send him your stock one which he would re-flash and sell to the next guy. You would not need a 2.0 cable yet which is why I haven't ordered one(also I do not have a lap top at this time, or the money for both). I wan't to know if anyone has used one of Jeff's flashed ecu's and how they like it. I already know how helpful Jeff is and how it is easier to flash than chip. All feedback is appreciated.

Some vendors (a lot of the Evo ones) will e-mail you the ROM. Then you take it and flash it onto your ECU instead of completely swapping out the ECU.

I should apologize here. I was actually responding to dsm darthvader who was confused about the product that you are interested in purchasing. I understand that you don't have a cable or the means for flashing your ecu and intend to swap it for one that Jeff has prepared for you. I was attempting to explain that very situation to darthvader.

I understand that but as you can tell that isn't an option for me yet.

I guess I should apologize too, I thought you were referring to me.

I am also curious to see how these flashed ecu's do. I want a flasher over a chipped ecu for the faster logging i think I would get with the 98-99 ecu.
Of course I'm at a crossroads with going socketed or flashed, As I havent touched the factory eprom ecu yet.

Im not confused at all:p Ive been following the flahes since the evos were doing it, if you were confused about what i said thats another story, it seemed to me like you took my reply as a bash against getting the chip, which was not. I run a chip myself and it runs good, but in the future i plan into getting a flashable ecu( btw you can use mirages and monteros ecus of certain years) beacuse of its practicality.

If and when I get one I'll be sure to post up a review for everyone, providing no one has put one up yet.
