Does anyonw out there know if the Greddy extreme timing belt for the evo VIII will fit a first gen 6 bolt talon?:talon: :thumb:

Yes it will fit.. But you should look into the Power enterprise timing belt the are the beefest belts I have ever seen I have bought two of these belts and there amazing. Also Hks is coming out with a belt in a couple of monts. check out Edoperformance.com they can get you all of the belts mentioned above very cheap.

Both are kevlar belts. Both are very nice belts and are alot stronger than the stock Mitsu.

People say these last longer than stock. As for me I change them at the most every 60,000 miles just like stock. I would rather be safe than sorry. Not sure if this is the direct answer you are looking for but I hope it helps. :thumb:

Go with a stronger timing belt because it is better to be safe then sorry. Getting a stronger belt for a couple hundred beats getting a new head due to the stock timing belt breaking.

No, it is not busting my balls at all. It is a valid question and I take it in stride. As far as lasting longer than stock, yes they do. As far as pushing past the requirements for regular timing mantienence, not wise. Especially with our tempermental cars. Call me anal but I like to keep my car happy and not push my luck.

The kevlar belt is not prone to stretching like the stock belt is and it will not fray like the stock belt will when it hits an object or when it gets old and dry rots. Is it possible for it to do this? Of course. However, is it prone to it? No. It is made with a stronger product to put our minds at ease. I would rather be safe than sorry. I do not have experience with this because I do regular timing changes. I have seen these last longer but I will not put information down for this as I do not have first hand experience.

You have to remember that everything else in your timing system is required to be changed every 60,000 miles.

You have to take in account the other timing parts that should be changed also.

They say with the kevlar belts, you can maintain perfect valve timing 4 times longer or more than the OEM belt. So you have a belt that is good for 240,000 miles so said but
1. Who is going to put 240,000 miles on it to really see?
2. Also your other timing parts still need replaced at 60k?

So you have a great belt, but the hydraulic tensioner, and pulleys all need replaced still at 60k miles. Does this mean you can just buy those parts and re-use the same t-belt again? I dunno, maybe, although I would put a new t-belt on then anyway.

I would say this belt would be good for someone that removes the belt ever 5-10k or so and I feel as long as it inspects good, it can be re-used again. I generally don't re-use a t-belt at all if its got more then 5-10k on it, if I had to remove it for other causes.

I dunno, I may use the kevlar belt when I am ready for final assembly. Besides the fact that IS stronger than stock, it also looks cool.

Now there is a good answer, finally. That's all I wanted to hear. I was sick and tired of all those vague "because it's stronger and wont break" answers. Now I'm not going to invest in to one, but I just want people to realize that you should not have that "set it and forget it" mentality with these belts. That you have to inspect them as you would the OEM belt. Oh yeah, good point on the rest of the timing components. :thumb:

Cool deal. Glad I could give you the answer you were looking for. :thumb:
