Got CEL: CODE P1400

i think it was P1400...but it said Auxillary Emission Control.....what exactly is that? coud it be my O2 sensors? Cat. converter?

Aux emissions controls should be the cat. I take it from the code structure that you have a 96 or up vehicle that is OBD II. Probally a cat no lite or the cat took a dump.

All 2G's are OBDII -- even the 95's.

i have a 97 GSX......a cat with no lite? which ever it is, how can i fix it? do i need to replace the catalytic converter?

What is CEL P1400? My friend's gst gave him this CEL P1400 so I told him I would search a little. Threads talk about it being the sensor on the intake manifold while others say it's the cat WTF Which is it and how do you fix it?

Its in the breakdown of the code. P=means powertrane conrtrol system, 1=manufacture specific code,4=aux emmissions controls,0=affected compont,0=sub system. P1400. Most likely the cat is bad and need to be replaced.

Not true, most 94-95 models had the OBD II connector but it dosent do anything because the vehicle is controlled by OBD I. My 94 mustang has the OBD II DLC, but if you hook up a scan tool to it dosent even power up the scan tool. Fedral mandiate stated that by 96 all vehicles must use OBD II, most manufactuers put the wiring and connectors in place that did nothing up to 95, but vehicles still used OBD I. If you look at it this way, most car modles that have continued for a while like the DSM did not undergo a change till 95, that was because it was easire to re-design the existing car rather than try and make the old one meet fedral mandates, like OBD II and air bags. Thats why almost all cars underwent a change in 94 and 95.

he said ALL 2G's - not all 95's known to man.

so yes- it is true - all 2g's are obd-2 ( 95-99 )

You should post faq - or thread as to were u got the info on the code breakdown.
I think that would prove helpfull in the future. (at least i find it interesting)

I learned it at WyoTech Engine Management Sysyems 2, primarally a 6 week course on OBD II. Yeah that is a good Idea I might do that, thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, my, are you a mission to waste other people's money or what? No-one wants to know what it is "most likely" to be. They want to know what it is.

A P1400 is the MDP cel. It means the MDP sensor is bad or your EGR valve has been blocked off or is clogged. If you are sure that the EGR is not blocked off, you can pull the MDP off the manifold and try to clean out the little hole. That often does the trick. If you have blocked off the EGR on purpose, learn to live with the cel or get DSMLink.
