I am getting my head gasket, valve cover gasket, and waterpump changed out and the shop wants 650 parts and labor. Do you guys think this is a fair price? It has been a while since i took it to a mechanic.. just dont have the time to work on it myself anymore.

One question I wanted to ask while i have this thread open was that what would the ill effects be if i removed the gasket between 02 housing and turbine housing. Both are custom made and I cant find a gasket yet that will fit right. Either it gets in the way of the flapper, gets in the way of the wastegate lever, or just blocks off some exhaust. Thinking it might be easiest to just run without a gasket there for a bit till i can find one to fit. Only thing I can think of is a slight exhaust leak after the turbo which means nothing and maybe a little extra noise.. anything i should worry about?

I'm not sure about the price...but

How long since your last Timing belt replacement job? I mean it shouldn't cost you much more in labor for them to do that since when you do the water pump you basicly are doing a timing job(for the most part). The parts obviously will cost you money, and I know you are already paying a good chunk but it will save you in the long run if your close to you 60k timing job.

Just a thought..incase you hadn't though about it.

yeah totally i agree with you but the timing belt was replaced like 15k ago so i dont think it needs it quite yet heh.

Most of the shops around here want around 500-600 for just a timing belt job, so thats not bad if it includes all the parts. Might want to see if they figured replacing timing belt components in that quote or not. My friend is a mechanic and their computer system automatically includes things that need/should be replaced when it is apart.

HOLY SHIT 600 bucks to change a belt you can buy 3 kevlar belts and new tensionsers for 600 bucks, do it yourself an ok timing gun is 100 bucks. as far as the rest do it yourself. get the mitsu metal head gasket and never pull the head off again, well unless your valves shake hand with your pistons. i cant imagine paying anyone 600 anything to replace my timing belt it better come with some sucky sucky from the secretary for that doe.

I think you could cause the flanges to warp over time w/o the use of a gasket. Try Bullseye Power for their O2 housing gasket. They are like nobodys elses. The holes are cut much larger than most other gaskets. I'll bet it'll work for you. :thumb:
