I'm in the market for an engine for spring. This guy is local to me but I'm wondering if this is a good price for what he has to offer. Thanks

I have some pictures on a for sale thread when I posted the Mofugas car. I will look for more. It was out of a 92 vr-4, J/E pistons, ARP head studs, Balance shafts removed, balanced, comes with a stock head Clevit bearings, ect. I was looking for $1300 if picked up. No turbo or manifold, no belts or ALT, just motor

I'm leary of purchasing something as crutial as a motor without seeing everything go together, and making sure that everything meets my specs first. I like having the machine work done by my personal trusted machinist. Thats just my personal preference, I want to know that no corners were cut in the assembly and to make sure it was done right in a clean environment. As for the price, I picked up all the parts/machining for a forged 6-bolt bottom end for cheaper than that, but I assembled it myself.

well as for myself i dont have the mechanical expertise, tools, and place to do any rebuilding. i'm kinda reluctant to start any projects that i'm not 100% sure about. i really have no body to rely on for help meaning friends/family. so i think i'm gonna go the get a semi built engine route instead. if i had the knowledge, tools, and place to rebuild an engine i'd pull mine out right now but i think it's probably easier for me to buy and engine for a quick fix and have my spare engine for future projects... thanks for you input though...

is the engine apart? i mean, how do you know he has all the internal mods in there if you can't see it? anybody can take a picture of someone else's motor being built and say it's theirs. if the engine is not apart, you can't tell if the goodies he claims in there are really there!

You don't need to take apart the motor, just unbolt the oil pan. Check to see everything is ok and as he says it is. Would you be able to get any compression figures from it? If you get good compression, any major rebuild problems *should* have surfaced by 10k. If its got good compression and everything checks out, I'd say its a pretty good deal.

As with any deal, try and talk him down a bit, but $1300 isn't bad for everything pre-assembled

that's what i meant. you still have to look inside, i just over exagerated with the engine to be apart. my fault.
