Good Price Estimate?

whats a good price for a shop to change the t-belt and rebuild the head? They will be furnishing all parts.

Well, I had a shop rebuild my head and replace my timing belt for me when I first got the car. It cost me $1700, but cost me more down the road because they didn't have the hydraulic adjuster adjusted and tightened down right. So 3 months after I spend $1700, my new timing belt jumped a tooth and reuined my fresh head. I had to redo the entire job myself which wasn't what I had on my to do list. I'm never gonna let a shop touch my car again. I'm not necessarily trying to discourage you from letting a shop do you timing belt, that's just with me. One thing is though, when you do the job yourself, you know what short cuts were taken.......if any. When a shop touches your car, you really don't know what's happening.

any idea how long this SHOULD take a shop to complete? they have had my car 11 days already and seems like they are making no progress.

I replaced my timming belt and head, it took me about 16hrs to do it. But i removed my entire engine. The shop that did the belt replacement before put the bottom crank sprocket on backwards and belt jumped. If they had the car for ii days it should be done by now. Call them and remind them about your car and tell them you need it back in X number of days. I would say about 8 hrs total for the replacement of eveything. Goodluck with the shop, most of them don't seem to care about you the customer anymore. It's a shame because we the consumer bring them business. Hope everything works out for you.

WTF 11 days?? I mean, better take your time and do things right, but that is taking too long. Only thing I can think of is that the shop rebuilding the head is taking a long time holding them up because usually the head gets sent off somewhere else to get rebuilt. Give them a call and tell them that you want to stop by and see the car. That will motivate them to get the job done quickly and right.
