Gold/Copper Shavings in oil pan

I recently had a clicking noise coming from under my valve cover, i took it off and noticed i had a scored cam. I also noticed i had no oil pressure. So i took off my oil pan to check and make sure the oil pick up was ok, in the process i noticed that i had alot of gold/copper shavings in my oil pan right were my turbo return line is feed into the oil pan. Does anybody know what this is cause by, or what it may be??

it could be the bearing in the turbo. They are brass iirc.

Most likely spun rod bearings. If you're seeing brass in the pan, pull all of the rod bolts, inspect the bearings, and be prepared for a bottom end rebuild. Depending on how bad the crank has been scored, you may be able to get away with a micropolishing.

When the motor goes back together, make sure you install a new front cover and a new oil pump. During the rebuild, it would be a great idea to remove the balance shafts if you haven't already and make sure the oil squirters have been cleared and aren't stuck open.
