Well, I had an oil pressure problem and I took it in to the dealership where I bought it from because I bought a 36k mile warranty with the car. They did an oil pressure test and said there's a little crack on the turbo manifold causing the problem. I knew about this crack but didn't realize it was causing this problem. I also had them look at the turbo, and they said the turbo was going bad. And a couple other things: timing belt needs changed, a bearing on the front driver's side wheel needs changed, and tranny fluid needs flushed and changed. I'm gonna go ahead and change the tranny fluid myself though. But luckily, the warranty will cover everything except the timing belt.

My question for you guys is, the guy I talked to there said that the warranty should cover the price of an aftermarket turbo and manifold if I decided to go that route. I want to go ahead with it but I'm not sure what turbo to get. I'm gonna get the evo III manifold and I was thinking either the small 16g or the big 16g. The only thing is, I'm not really planning on modding anything else, like my exhaust or intercooler, unless something would go wrong with them. Will the small 16g work fine with the stock sidemount and stock exhaust? Because if it won't then I'm just gonna get a factory manifold and t25. One other question. Is the small or big 16g a direct fit or do I need an install kit or something? I'm trying to spend as little money as I can. I already have to pay the diagnostic fees, $260 for timing belt, $60 for alignment, and however much the tranny fluid will be.

Sorry it's so long but I wanna get some answers on what route I should take.

Thanks in advance.

Well if you have no supporting mods to back up that 16G, such as fuel, clutch, etc, then I wouldn't go with it. I'd see if you could buy a 14B (stock 1G turbo) with that warrenty somehow, that is much larger then the T-25 and should run decently on a stock car. If you do decide to go with the 16G (I wouldn't on a stock car tho...), you should get the install kit unless you wanna piece all the oil lines and stuff together.

One thing tho - be 100% sure that they will cover the cost of all this before you let them do it. I'd make them sign something that ensures that. I just can't believe that any dealership would go for giving aftermarket parts to customers under warranty - it may damn well be possible but it doesn't sound like a typical dealership.

What is wrong with the car though? It's not really normal for a 2G exhaust mani to crack, yeah I'm sure it happens, but on a 97? I dunno... Also, I think you should test out the turbo real fast to see if it is in fact going bad - try taking off the tube from the airbox to the turbo and check for shaft play - try moving it up and down, left and right, and front and back. If it moves more then just a little teeny tiny bit, then it is going bad. I guess it doesn't really matter if they are paying for it though.

Well good luck, and please tell us what's wrong with the car, I'd like to know how they came to those conclusions.

Alright, I just wanted to make sure about the 16g before I went for it. Do you think they could the the 14b from the Mitsu dealership? Will the 14b work fine with the factory 2g manifold? Because if it will, I'll just get a factory replacement from the Mitsu dealership. Because I'd rather get some factory parts because if I get aftermarket, and they go bad, then they will void the warranty and I'll have to dish out the money.

I talked to the guy tonight and he said that it will cover everything. It was too late for him to call the warranty company to double check but he's doing that tomorrow and he said he'd give me a call in morning after he talks to them. So once I talk to him and find all that out, I'm gonna figure out what I want to do.

Well, I don't think the girl that had it before me maintained it very well. It has 68k on it and the timing belt wasn't changed at the 60k mark like it's supposed to. And the tranny fluid was overfilled and dirty, so someone did a shitty job. I would look at the turbo, but I told the shop to just go ahead and keep it, cuz I don't wanna drive on it anymore than I have to. I'll keep you all updated on what's going on.
