I recently was given a lightweight ACT FWD flywheel and i was told by a machinist that i could convert it to an AWD flywheel, what steps would i need to take and what would i need to complete this task??

I've never heard of converting them. The awd flywheel is smaller, so if there were a way to do it you would need to get it machined down and then find a new ring gear from a awd. In the end you might be better off selling the fwd and buying a awd.

Well i have considered that but since it was free and everyone in my car club has awd cars then i just thought about machining it. Im having trouble finding a ring gear that is in good shape and noone has a ring gear in stock at any of the transmission shops around here. The FWD supports a 110 tooth ring gear, machining it about a 1/2 inch, putting the 100 tooth AWD ring gear on, and putting roll pins half the distance drom the set screws for balance should work...right?
