Anyone ever make one, esp the diffuser. Putting my car back together makes me regret not ever trying to investigate how to make one one a 2g. The evos seem to be much easier to design one for just with how the car looks and the shape of the underneath, but im sure one could be designed for a 2g. Anyone have any thought.

Ive had ideas to run some aluminum along the the bottom of the car to make it fully smooth and then design a defuser, but im not sure how easily that would be.

If anyone has any ideas, let see them. :thumb:

well for your reading pleasure I suggest you look up gixxerdrew's build on this site. (He is the one representing 2g's in the DSM-Tuners log in the top left.) He has had many profitable aerodynamic discussions. In the same convertible 2g he took home titles at the salt flats and in the time attack series. his team stopped looking to generate more grip from down force once they determined they had maxed out the tires potential.

so his work is always a good read.
Forget about adding down force. First reduce Lift! if you go about trying to add downforce first you will still be just compensating for the lift the car already has, and adding unnecessary drag. second remember everything you do is trying to create pressure differentials slow air has high pressure fast air generates low pressure.

with the splitter in mind what we want to try and do is accelerate the movement of air under the front of the car. that will effectively Suck it to the ground. the most effective way of doing this would be to create a splitter the go all the way back to the fire wall. giving a vertical gap between the fire wall and the splitter would still allow a lot of heat to be sucked out into that low pressure zone without too much turbulence, but something like a evo style hood will still be required to vent most of the heat from the highpressure zone under the hood to the low pressure above it. these combined measure will likely reduce most of the lift your car has at speed and help stuck it to the ground. extending the splitter 2-3 inches in front of the front bumper will generate down force but probably not not ad much as the reduction of lift you will gain from extending that back as far as possible. (atleast to the axles)

keep in mind that you should reinforce your front bumper so that the force generated by the splitter at speed is not pulling down on just your front bumper cover. It would be best to attach the braces for the splitter to the crash bar supports.

as for the rear you dont really need to create a rear diffuser just to keep your car planted. But the logic behind them can help us. those rear diffusers are designed for cars with full belly pans that have more laminar flow under the car. the turbulent crap that shoots out from under a dsm would only be half a s useful, unless you intend to do a whole belly pan. the idea is those diffusers take the air rushing under your car and accelerate it (by ramping upward) into the large low pressure behind the car. well we would have trouble doing that unless you had a full belly pan and were willing to cut up the back bumper and trunk.
But we can keep the rear bumper from becoming a parachute slowing down the air and adding lift. a simple under pan that attaches to the rear diff mount to the rear bumper cover would keep the air moving quickly and reduce the majority of the lift normally generated by the rear of the car.

just removing that much lift from the front and the rear will really stick the car to the ground. from there you could add front or rear down force as you find the need.

cheers..
