Well unfortunately I now own the car that was the replacement for my first car that was my Dad’s. Yes confusing I know. If you don’t like reading I would suggest skipping this post.

So as my profile says my first car was a Kona blue 95 RS 5sp. For $1,500 it actually wasn’t a bad car but had its problems. At this point I was an extreme beginner mechanic.

Fast forward about a year or so and I now have paid to have the 95 RS painted white with a 2gb conversion. I painted the calipers and rear drums an “aqua” blue with black wheels. By this point in time I figured out the stock 420A was a slow turd and I mean slow. I was getting ate up by everything 😂.

I found a 99 GSX that was 5 speed and completely unmolested. I’m talking 100% bone stock. It was $5,500 and I showed my Dad and I said damn this is exactly what I want.

I worked at Wendy’s in high school to pay for gas, insurance and what not. Any who’s 2 days after showing my Dad the car he went to the used car dealer and traded his 300zx for this GSX which is the current one I still own. Him and my mom drove the car to the Wendy’s and brought it to the drive through to show me. I’ll never forget this day.

So his plan was I now had a new to me GSX and he was gonna take my RS. The gsx needed spark plugs in the worst way which is why I think it was sold to begin with. New ngk 6’s and she was feeling solid and a rocket ship compared to the RS.

Fast forward about 2 years and my dad got a flat tire on his way home. I’m working commercial construction at the time and about to head out of town. So I grab what I need and head out to rescue him. We change the tire and we head out our separate ways. I received a phone call from a PA state trooper at like 2 in the morning while I’m sleeping in a hotel in dirty ass Jersey.

Turns out my Dad never made it home and it left him sitting on 81 at his exit. Like 4 miles from home. Guess my mom picked him up and he was gonna get it the next day. Well some POS decided that he wanted it. So he smashed the passenger side window and tried to rip out the column lock but failed. They then wrapped a rope around the bumper and rad support and destroyed that trying to drag it down the road.

Now a state cop pulls up on them. Apparently at this point in time the ugly wife jumps out of the truck and starts running and well then they both got arrested and now my Dad and I are left with a car that was far from the shape that it was. Really pissed me off at the time.

So we took at the stuff we wanted and it went to the scrap yard. Now this is where the full moon comes in. My Dad found a 99 GS “Oz edition” black 5speed with tan leather in Virginia. He loved the white 2gb so much we ended up painting it white after 3-4 years. Ice slid off the hood when it was black and the insurance check pretty much paid for all of what we needed.

I always had plans of boosting the original RS so we had a full kit. Ended up putting it on the GS with a fmu. Drove around about a year or so before he blew the head gasket. We rebuilt the motor that came from the RS and slapped her in there. That lasted about another year before he decided to slap in an 18psi spring in the gate without me knowing. He took my mom somewhere and on the way back he floored and blew the ring lands clear outta the back of piston number 1.

I kinda snapped on him and was like yeah no shit dude like what did you think was gonna happen. So we then rebuilt the original motor and this where the car is now. She has about 50 miles on her and we never really got it completely back together like headlights and what not . You know sometimes life gets busy. It got thrown on the back burner for a little while.

Now is when the car becomes mine. 12/09/24 my second child/first son is born. Luckily my dad and mom came to the hospital after he was born that night for a few hours. My Cummins and her Telluride were both in the parking lot and I needed to take my truck home and needed a ride back to the hospital. My dad met me at my house 12/10/24 in the morning to take me back in. I didn’t know it at the time but this was my last car ride I’d ever take with him. He dropped me off and I told him that I appreciated him as always and told him to have a good night at work. This was last time I spoke to him.

We were discharged from the hospital around 6:30 that evening and I got a phone call before my car even shifted into second gear. Apparently he suffered a heart attack and went into a A/B fib idk which one right now and well didn’t last too much longer after that. I went home and dropped my wife and the kids off and tried calling my mom and sister to get the scoop but no answer. I didn’t eat much that day so I was starving. So I warmed some food up and I didn’t finish my food yet and my sister called me saying he was gone.

I’m not really sure how to move on without him. He was my best friend and a huge part of my life.

My plans for the car are to get new tires, rotors, pads and just enjoy it the way it is for now. I’ve been reading a lot about ms3 and after figuring out more about it and what all is needed and how it works I’d like to get the fmu out of it and replace it with MegaSquirt. The fmu served a purpose and was fine if you were low boost and didn’t beat the snot out of it.

I had some time this morning to work on my Dads car. I’m not sure why but we never replaced the grommets on the valve cover bolts. Brand new valve cover gaskets and spark plug grommets but never switched out the bolt grommets.

I spent some time going through the stuff he had for the car and found a brand new set of them.

While I had the coil pack off the valve cover I pulled the injectors and through them on my cleaning/flow machine and they all produced about the same ML’s and the spray patterns looked pretty uniform.

I also drained the fuel outta the tank and replaced the fuel filter with a fresh one. While I was under the car I realized I forgot how rust free this car is. I wish my GSX was as clean not that it’s a rust bucket by any means but has surface rust starting in suspension and rear subframe areas.

Any who’s here’s progress pics of the valve cover. Hopefully I can get time later to get some fresh 93 and let it run outside for a little. My driveway currently is a sheet of ice and I’ll never get the car back up if it goes down it. Sometimes I hate PA…

I stumbled upon this today. A picture of the original RS days after it was painted. I paid a local body shop at the time and well they did a shit job. They hardly taped anything off which is why the front bumper duct is sprayed.

If you look closely you can see the Kona blue showing through the drivers hood/fender gap.

And yes it was a RS with a sunroof.
