ok i have checked everywhere, but the forums i find are based on turbo models. My Talon is a non turbo 420a, with cat back exhaust, racing clutch, and short ram intake. Here is my problem.

My car starts right up no problem. has brand new fuel pump in it. with new fuel filter. it runs fine but doesnt pull as hard as i think it should. (i mean ive seen metro's pull harder) but she runs smooth up until i floor it WOT. its like hitting a brick wall. i let off and it will pick back up but will start running rough after that. and times when i dont floor it, after driving for about 25 minutes it does it. andi have to ease off the gas more and more to keep the car going. i can turn the car off. and wait a few seconds and start it back up, then its fine for a lil while longer.

PLEASE HELP GUYS. this forum is the best. every post i have made you guys help every time.

new plugs in it. shop put them in. TPS was changed out by the previous owner, but it was from a junkyard and i dont think he adjusted it. but whats weird is when i put it in neutral i can put it to the floor and its fine, just sounds off. and its not a misfire as i just had the timing belt changed and aligned. ill go for new coil pack and wires see if that helps. any other ideas though? thanx for all your help guys.

Also is there any other reason for a non turbo talon 5 speed feel like its hitting a brick wall? i mean it doesnt stutter or misfire, it just cuts out completely..

Im going to say more of the TPS, ISC.. something of that! I don't really think if would be a misfire due to how you explained what, how and when it happens!! BUT i could always be wrong!

You can check the plugs to see if there are in good condition, and make sure the wires are plugged in all the way!!
I did have an issue similar to this with my old cadi eldorado.. it happen to be my plug wire it got caught in my fan and cut it almost in half and the actually conductor of the plug would touch tell i floored it or was on some bumpy roads!

Like i said you can check you sparks and stuff but i don't think thats where you problem lies!!

Did you install the fuel pump yourself, or did a shop do it? You don't notice any leaks or the smell of gas, do you? Besides electrical issues you could check your fuel system. Make sure the pump is functioning properly, the regulator is working, etc. I had a similar problem on an older n/a car, and it was first the fuel pump, then the regulator.

the shop did it. and yes i do smell gas. also the pump is really loud. fuel pump is new, but i put a new one in my self before the shop did and it wasnt loud, and i didnt smell gas. any ideas? the pump is under warrantee

If it's a high-performance pump, it makes sense that it is loud. But can you here it working when you are having the problems, or is the sound interrupted/inconsistent? When my pump was bad, the sound it made reminded me of Morse code.

Can you trace the gas leak? When my regulator when bad, there was a leak near it on the fuel rail. Otherwise start by hunting down the leak and go from there.

just some info... an engine misfiring isn't alway detected in neutral, that is not the way to test for a misfire!
Some time engines will only misfire under a load on them! I had a miata that did such thing!
so just to let you know revin in neutral doesn't help all the time.
Just like the never let go of you steering wheel and see if it drifts to the side if you THINK you alignment is out haha!

And if you did get a High pressure Fuel Pump did you replace you FPR?
The high pressure the perfromance pumps preduce is to much on a stock FPR and you will tend to burn really rich!
Which can cause this feeling of lossed power under engine load!
Id suggest replacing the stock one with a nice fuel lab AFPR or aeromotive is good as well!!
I personaly like my Fuellab.

i dont know if its a high performance pump. i dont think it is considering the car is almost stock except a few bolt on mods like exhaust, suspension, clutch, intake. injectors are stock so i dont think the shop would put in a high performance pump. also getting a AFPR would mean i need to get a new fuel rail as well, as my FPR is made onto the fuel rail as a unit.

Good idea about tracking down the leak. but what if i dont find a leak? where could the gas smell be coming from? ill lift the car and start searching. again thanx for all your help guys.

I am waiting on my MSD coil pack and wires to come in. And i just ordered a TPS new instead of from a junk yard. we will see how it goes. i will post with an update.

I was just on 2gnt.com, and it is possible to disable the factory FPR through modification for the intent of using an aftermarket AFPR on a 95 n/t. That way you could keep your stock rail, add an AFPR, and run a high flow pump.

If your pump is functioning properly and an approximate stock replacement, it may be your FPR. I'm not sure how they fail, but as skatershawn said, you may be running way too rich, and that could be the reason for the smell of gas is if you can't find a leak.

Edit: here is the link on 2gnt, How to disable the 95 FPR

I think ill just replace the rail and FPR with AEM stuff. it doesnt seem to cost that much anyways. While im at it im going to get a new fuel tank to rail kit with high flow fuel filter. Any one know a good place to buy a MSD ignition kit? not just the coil pack but everything. REV limiter, CDI box, etc...
