front o2 sensor same as rear?

This is a noobish question, but is the front o2 sensor the same as the rear? I know they do different things, but could I hook a front o2 sensor to the rear o2 sensor bung?

No, they are different.

the thread pitch is the same on both o2 sensors. your plugs will probably not plug in to the o2 sensor. and you're right, they have diff. functions.

The front sensor technically is an air/fuel ratio sensor, while the downstream or rear sensor is referred to as a catalytic converter monitor. They are similar, but different & not interchangeable.

The back sensor simply plugs into the cat, or near it usualy. This sensor serves a different purpose than the primary front one. The back one is sometimes eliminated.

Go to the NGK website or sparkplugs.com and it should give you the Part Number for each.
