After the last track day my front rotors had a nice dark blue tint to them, so I decided to address the issue before the next track day. I did some research and didn't find much I liked for the 1g. So I picked up some 22ga (.030") sheet metal from home depot and went to work. I have not yet tested this on the track, and will post an update after next track day.
After some rough measurements, I cut an approximate piece of metal to fit in this area here:

Then I continued cutting and bending the piece until I was happy with the fitment

I added 2 rivets on each side where the bend is to reinforce the metal. Tack welding it would work too.

Next I went ahead and drilled and tapped 2 M6x1.0 holes on the control arm, where the sway bar link mounts to. There is plenty of meat there so I doubt I weakened the metal any by drilling there.

I drilled 2 holes on the duct so the M6 bolts can slide through. Here is the final product.

The duct is aimed to the bottom of the rotor, just under the caliper, and there is plenty of clearance between all the moving components. The thickness of the material makes it quite a sturdy piece. Now just a coat of paint is needed. What do you guys think?

Looks good, nice work.

How is the duct positioned with the car on the ground? Ideally, I'd think you'd want it to hang a bit below the bumper angled in a downward position.

Thanks for the tips,
I will take some pictures with the car on the ground hopefully tomorrow after work. The holes on the duct can be elongated/ egg-shaped to achieve that angle, if it's too far off.
