So as i was driving home from work i noticed a burnt plastic smell, i popped my hood and wah la. My alternator fuse was melting. Today I took it out and now theres a huge gaping hole from where the fuse used to be. So now my question is do i have to get a whole new fuse box? and what would cause this to happen, i dont want to change out the whole box just for this to happen again.

you could splice in an inline fuse for the alt since that spot is toast. but i would inspect the harness for damage also since it melted the fuse vs popping it.

To replace the box you would have to get a donor box and unwire the stock one and wire in the replacement.

do not do anything till you find out why it melted a fuse

I would assume that someone modified the fuse, or put in a larger fuse. As stated, inspect the rest of the harness, have the alternator tested, and run an inline fuse instead of replacing the box.

If you decide to replace it you can buy a whole harness to make it easier, or you can just pop the terminals out of the old box and switch them to the new box one by one. That would be a lot easier and cleaner than cutting and soldering all the wires together.

Could look for that on the harness on the classifieds or CL or ebay and just get a whole new one and replace it. Its not that hard to replace the whole thing, but def get your battery and alternator checked out tho.

thats a weird harness to replace because it starts at the fuse box and ends under the ds dash.

new they are like 500+ at a junkyard i found one that had the correct factory options for my car and got it for 75 bucks in perfect shape. it was a long day pulling it and installing it in my car. doing the fuse box would be easier expesially if you can get one with the harness cut before the box so its just a matter of undoing and swapping one wire at a time.

They aren't that hard to swap at all. It goes around both sides of the wheel wells and into the cabin. There are a few plugs on each side. You need to pull the inner fenders to get to it.

You can source the fusebox from one of our supporting vendors, S&M Auto Parts. If you need harnesses, he has them too. Just ask for Stevie, he will give you a great deal!

Why was this thread revived! I didnt realize all the later posts were on a thread started 3yrs ago!
