I did a search on the frankenstein motor from DSMGraveyard but only found a topic similar to mine that was date in 2008, however it was never really answered in my opinion. That and I've got a lot of questions too and not a lot of time (I'm stuck using a library computer)

I'm wondering what the reliability of these engines are? I'm looking at DD the car during summer with an occaisional trip to a road/street course and maybe even to a drag-event from time to time. Also would it be fine to use the stock intake and a 2g exhaust on this engine?

Next is the turbo, I have no clue on these things at all and well their cost freaking amazes me... I think the cheapest turbo (thats new) that I've come across was $900... and thats not something I wanna spend, especially when I really don't want all that much power for now anyways. I know Ebay has cheap stuff, but I'm not sure what would fit on the 2g exhaust.

Third I'm looking at upgrading my transmission, I currently have an automatic trans but I'm not sure if there are many "upgrades" for these, so I'd probably have better luck switching to a manual trans. Considering "Sheptrans specializes in DSM and EVO stuff (and he also drag races the crap out of DSM's)
I'm thinking of going with a stage 1 trans, but I'm wondering if the stock transfer case should be upgraded as well?

A stock 6 bolt motor(1G) can handle 400whp with ease on a good tune and ARP headstuds. They are reliable as long as you keep up with ALL the maintenance. So your frankenstien motor(what stage?) should be fine. I don't know why you went with one, seems like a waste of money to me.

Why would you use a 2G exhaust LOL? Do you mean a 2G exhaust manifold? If so, then yes you can, they don't crack as easy and have more room to port.

I don't know where the hell you are looking for turbos, but I payed $400 for my rebuilt Bastard 20G(16G with 20G wheel). A brand new Evo 3 16G goes for $550-600 brand new, and will get you 380whp realistically. The stock turbo on your car is a 13G, if it is the original turbo that came on the car, and is useless for making more power than stock. Stay away from ebay. I get my parts from extremepsi.com, forcedperformance.com, or stmtuned.com and sometimes the classifieds.

What supporting fuel mods do you have?

The automatic can take more power and abuse than the manual transmissions, and is faster in a quarter mile if you have a high stall torque converter. Mitsubishi DSM High Stall Converter

You can also get a "road surge box" to shift when you want to( RoadSurge.com ) and an EPROM TCU(programmable transmission control unit). You can have the EPROM TCU programmed to shift at 100% line pressure(acts like a shift kit in every gear) and shift at certain rpms of you choice for each gear change.

Why exactly are you looking for a new motor? And what kind of power goals are you looking for? Any turbo with a DSM turbine housing will bolt up to your 2g exhaust manifold. And honestly you should keep your auto trans if you plan on dragging. They are more sought after since they build boost off the line and hold boost between shifts. Your shifts will be much more consistent with an auto rather than a manual, no miss shifts. Plus you won't fly through clutches every season or transmissions. The autos will hold up a little better once it's been built to handle the power.
