I am trying to figure out if it would be ok to use just an FP2 exhuast cam and a Stock intake cam for emissions. I was getting a misfire code (which I believe is from the FP2 Intake cam) And I also read somewhere that cams of this type cause base timing to be off too much to pass inspection.

So since the car gets it's timing signal from the intake cam. If I remove the FP2 cam from the intake side. Emissions fixed.

Is it ok to run just the exhuast cam?

your going to get different lift, which would advance and retard the timing of the motor, and possibly make overlap on valves worse or better. If your using the same cam gears, then you can put a different cam in. AMS uses a 264 and a 272 I believe.
Have you checked the plugs, and coil pack for a misfire? Could even be located in the injectors. I think you may have an easy fix on your hands.

So it's not common to experience a check engine light from cams? I was told I won't pass inspection with these cams installed because base timing will be off too much.

Right now I am in the process of swapping my motor, So my plugs and wires will be changed. I will check my coils also.
