First Upgrade's Help Needed

Hey been reading here since I bought my 92 Laser Rs N/t and have been wanting to upgrade the motor nothing too crazy at the moment but i would love to put on anything that will make it run better/extend engine life. it has 68000 km on it thanks.

Ps: Looking to make it purr and add a little HP
Also my exaust smells like gas alot so i think its running rich how do i fix this.
