I have a built auto tranny that I purchased sitting in my garage, and I want it in asap. Do you guys have any suggestions/info that would be helpful? I know how to turn a wrench, I just installed a 1g head, holset turbo, cams, smim, etc. but am kinda skeptical about doing the tranny. Do I need to buy any new parts beforehand? Thanks in advance

If you don't have a trans jack, you will want to make sure the Emergency room at the local hospital has a room reserved for when you drop the trans on your face. bout all the advice I have. Only new stuff you should need is fluids and loctite. And see how messed up the flexplate is, might need a new one if yours is tore up.

Nice, sounds pretty easy. How is it compared to a 5spd install? Could I get it done in a day? Does anyone know of a vfaq or something that will help. I have a chiltons, but they can only help so much. Thanks

Well, I got my built tranny installed. I've driven it about 5 miles and notice that it doesn't go into overdrive now, and when I'm cruising around, it sometimes comes out of gear and revs like it's in neutral. What would cause this? Thanks

So, would I have to take my reanny out to replace it? I found that if I start it up, it shifts fine and goes into overdrive, but only overdrive is whats slipping. After I drive it for a little bit, i think it goes into safe mode and only goes into 3rd gear. I have about 8 quarts of tranny fluid in it now because I've read stories where they don't put enough tranny fluid in there and it doesn't go into overdrive (like me) and burns up the end clutches.

Also, the guy I bought it from said that I could take off the plastic "o" part with two snap rings on the tranny and adjust the shift firmess, is this right? ciould this be why overdrive isn't working?

This is really frustrating...Thanks for the help

Well, I got the end clutes, o-rings and everyhting replaced- shifts good now. Only one problem, I can't get my car to go over 2000rpm when I try and launch it ( I even have a 3800rpm stall converter). I've tried antilag, richen it up, lean it out, and still nothing. Any suggesions at all would be great. I'm going to the track in 2 days. Thanks

what are your mods? I've gotten bone stock vehicles to 2800 before. What have you changed since you last had it stalling up properly?

I changed a lot. I had a evo3 with stock motor and tranny with a fmic. Since then I have a built tranny with 3800rpm stall, 264/272 cams, jmf smim, holset h1e turbo, fp intake, apexi skyline fmic.

So, it's been a while since I installed my built tranny, and I'm having some problems.

I got it all installed and everything was good, but then I drove it to Boise, ID which is about 3 1/2 hours away. I got it there and did the 1/4 mile (15.4 @112 LOL) and was driving around before the 1/4 and was trying to put it in reverse, and it slips. The warmer the engine, and I'd guess tranny is, the more it slips. It got so bad that I had to have my friend get out and roll me backwards when we were tuning.

I had a local tranny guy replace my end clutches and gaskets, because my overdrive wasn't working before my trip, could this be what's wrong with my reverse? What else could it be? I havn't driven it in about a month because I don't want to break anything. Thanks for any and all help.

I have an external cooler, and a temp gauge (but it wasn't hooked up yet when this happened). I used mobil 1 synthetic atf right before my trip. I'll watch everyhting, but what could have happened? is something burned up that I need to replace now? Thanks

I believe it's 8"x8". I have a spal fan on it too. It sits flat in front of my pass. front tire. Is it big enough with that fan?

I'd think that should be enough. I have never used the mobil 1 stuff or known anyone that did so I dunno how good it is, I just know I wouldn't ever put anything other than redline or amsoil in any trans I own. I suppose it could possibly be something valve body related, maybe not properly pressurizing the clutches somehow?

I was leaking some from my passanger axle seal, but I replaced that. My tranny shifts more firmer than my old one, and I'm pretty sure I'm at full line pressure. I havn't changed the tranny fluid yet, but that's my next thing to change.

From the reading I did the choices were Amsoil, diamond atf, atf IV and the mopar stuff. All with the black bottle of friction modifier. Right now I'm doing the trouble shooting with the cheap atv4 and I have a 2 gallon jug of amisol once its done leaking etc.
