ok so i noticed that the bell housing in my 95 gst wasnt tightend all the way.. the previous owner put a new clutch in it his self and i guess didnt tighten all the bolts.. and so now i can only find Four bolts on the top part, one on the front side, one on back and two on the top. is there anymore then that?? also if i dont torque them all the same will the bell housing crack??

Next..

During the bell housing i remember looking at the valve cover and seeing smoke come from out of it.. and was told that the gasket was bad.. well i thought hmm and looked down close and the valve cover wasnt even tightend down.. so i tightend it down and thought maybe ther ewas some bolts underneth the timing belt cover (top part) so i pulled it off and so im wandering since i tightend that down will i need a new gasket??

And the last question

Ive searched for atleast 30 mintues on this reading differnt threads but i cant find one that really tells me... so heres the problem after i pulled the cover off to the timing belt i felt it and theres little tension put onto it. like i could probably slide it off if i tried.. is this normal?? i read that the exhaust cam likes to turn one way soi that it can be relived and that made it less tenison?? the car has 158k miles and the previous owner obviously was about as dumb as a rock! so im wandering should i maybe replace it?? the belt looks arite to me.. so i asked my dad and he said that the tensioner was bad.. but my dads more about classic muscle cars then newer cars.. so im wandering what should i do about this??

sorry i know im a newbie and i should search but like i said ive been looking for them.. so please help!!

There should be five bolts (which I found out by using this site - http://www.columbusdsm.com/resources/knowledge_base/kb_00022_2G_Turbo_FWD_tranny_removal.htm). Step 46 says about there being 5 bolts (and the one removed earlier is in Step 39). There should be two long bolts in the front and the back of the tranny holding it to the block. These bolts going through a metal dowel rod that helps align the tranny with the block. You can't see the dowel unless there is space between the tranny and block. Then the one mentioned in Step 39. And then there are 2 on top of the block. The one goes through a bracket that goes around a water pipe. And the other is towards the front of the car more. Should be able to tell which ones hold the tranny to the block vs. which ones are for the starter.

I would find a way to be able to torque all those bolts down to spec!!! Why wouldn't you? I would not feel safe knowing that the bolts holding the tranny to the block are looser than they should be.

Yes torque all the bolts to spec and in a nice even manner doing one then going on the opposite side and doing another to keep it all nice and even.

As for the timing belt; if you suspect it and dont know the last time its been changed you better change it as it is a crucial part to this engine. With the interference valves if you skip or jump timing its all over but the crying. Make sure you replace all the pulleys, auto tensioner and belt with oem. Follow the vfaq step by step when you do it. Also make sure you follow the tensioner tightening instructions very carefully it is essential you get it right to prevent grenading your engine!

+1 for echo...torque it all and probably change the belt and other neccessary parts that are replaced with changing the timing belt...always better saf than sorry.
