A while ago I went to the nearest Mitsu dealership and purchased the factory repair manuals for my 1995 GSX. I wanted to have it quickly so I could tackle some maintenance problems while I was home from school. I was finally paging through it the other day to see how hard it would be to replace the clutch. To my amazement, I couldn't seem to find any instructions what-so-ever. Nothing.

Am I blind? There's no entry in the index, and I ended up with three volumes. There's also no information on the shortblock either. The closest thing I could find was some information about the head and even then, I was disappointed with the amount of information. Not that I plan on taking apart the block or the head (at least at this point), but I expected the information to be in there for the price I paid.

I know I can get the clutch instructions from VFAQ, but even they say that I should have the repair manual so I can get torque numbers. What's going on here? Was I somehow cheated? Is there a fourth volume that I don't know about? Everyone else seems to be having a great time with their repair manuals... did I miss something?

I am looking at the 2G manuals from the CD I have in front of me. Does your section 22 of the Engine, Chassis, Body manual detail the removal of the transaxle/transfer case from your car? Also, section 21B should provide you the necessary details of the the clutch itself.

If so, that should be everything you need to do the job.

Section 22 does show me how to remove the transaxle. I don't have a "21-B" though. It's all "21-1, 21-2, etc." I have a lot of instructions for removing the clutch pedal assembly, the master and slave cylinder, and the various clutch lines. Maybe you get clutch instructions with the purchase of a new clutch from Satan? Haha.

Yipes. What'd they bang you for those?
An arm and half a leg. Or my firstborn.

Just kidding, it was around $80 or something like that. One of my friends has a job there, so he can buy stuff at varying discounts. I was told the "retail" price for the three manuals was around $180, so I figure I got a decent discount. Ebay probably would've been cheaper, but I'm really uncomfortable purchasing items that way.

I don't have it in front of me, but I have a section 21B in the Clutch section that details clutch removal/installation and various service items involved with the clutch. I'll see if I can figure a way to send you the pages from the .pdf for your application if you want.

So uncomfortable you wouldn't chance $10? :D That's what I paid for my CD on Ebay that has the 90 through 99 manuals and I even got an extra CD that has the 2000 to 2002 manuals because he sent me the wrong one initially. ROFL

You did well. They're rare as can be on eBay, and usually go for much more than $80. Meanwhile, the Chrysler books go for as low as $10 for the first pair (1, Mechanical, and 2, Electrical). The drivetrain and body books are more rare.

Technically, couldn't any CD copy of these manuals be considered a rip off?

Anyhow, I just went on Ebay and searched for manuals and this is what I came up with. I had no idea there was a preferred "vendor" and definately didn't intend to piss anyone off. Sorry.

I don't want to be typing on my laptop with oily hands trying to find instructions. That's what the repair manual is for! :p

Edit: It appears that I need to buy seperate Overhaul manuals if I want the instructions for the shortblock and the clutch.

I agree, it's nice to have a manual you can have on hand when you're doing the work. Running back and forth to your computer sucks, and gets it all dirty.

The manual I purchased has section 21B for the clutch. The engine overhaul is in section 11B, and is very detailed. It almost sounds like you didn't get the correct manual set.

Not merely technically, but specifically. Which is why he stresses that it's a backup CD, which would be legal to own and use if you'd bought the factory manuals. Copies for personal use are legal, and it doesn't matter who made them for you. This is very plainly explained on the Backup CD site, and you make the stipulation that you own the originals when buying from him. If you lie to him, that's your burden.

It's not really a big deal, we just try to help our own. No intent to castigate you, just to get the point known. :thumb:
