It says in that quote Mike provided that if you're going to add a dumb tube that it shouldn't enter the exhaust stream until 12-18" from the turbo so that it doesn't effect the flow from the turbo. However in your(and most peoples case) the difference wouldn't be noticable. I plan to introduce mine at that bend, if I ever make one.
 
Or ya'll could just run open dump, Like I"m doing again....I've run both closed and open, and although its more of smoother sound with the connected dump tube.....you can't beat the look on people's faces and the Big Motor sound of an open dump....Just my 02.

Plus its alot less maintanece and things to worry about on the downpipe.
 
Yeah I have been running an open dump as well. I kind of want to go to a connected pipe though, it's cool for a while and to make people look when you take off, but when I'm just trying to pass somebody on the highway or something, I don't really like it opening up as I'm next to them.
 
So besides the noise factor, and slight pollution is their any thing i should know about running an open dump such as loss of back pressure, o2 sensor reading, any flaws in running the open dump?
 
It's really just loud... beyond that an open WG dump doesn't affect anything. The wastegate doesn't really open unless you're at WOT or close to it. At that point, the ECU disregards O2 sensor readings altogether.

Back pressure is really only slightly useful in preventing boost spikes (i.e. in the main exhaust stream). There are no performance losses associated with running an open dump tube; in some cases, people actually reported performance increases.


And a V-band is a type of one-bolt clamp that holds two sections of exhaust together. It's useful because removing that section of exhaust is extremely quick (only one bolt), and no gaskets are needed. Many high HP cars have V-bands connecting their turbochargers to their downpipes.

Hey focker, go ahead and look at hahn's 3" eliminator downpipe, that comes with a vclamp.

V-band is the shiz if you got the money...I dont know how expensive or any specific numbers, but it cleans things up and makes easy install and take off time for exhausts off the turbo and beyond...or for like wastegates too...if you go to FP's website you can see their new line of V-band turbos and wastegates that are all V-band... :thumb: http://www.forcedperformance.net/
