exhaust size???

ok ive read alot of other posts but its all mixed answers. how much does the apexi N1 turbo neck down to... i know theres an adapter that goes down to 2.5"for the stock cat but im not going to use it. i know its not a true full 3" all the way but what is the smallest point it necks down to??

The downpipe goes from 2.5" to the flex tube and then to 3" from then on to the catback. The catback is a true 3" from what I can tell on my car.

well i know its not a true 3" b/c it even says it in there product discription:

GST 1995-1999 Desc: Cat-Back Exhaust Type: N-1 Piping Diameter : 70mm-74.7mm-85mm Exhaust Tip Diameter : 115mm

but in one of the other posts someone said it necks down to under 2" in the resonator

No its not true, if its a full 3" exhaust system then it is a full 3" tubing. Take a measurement and see for yourself.

It necks down in places even after the flex. Definitely not a 3" system.
Who wants to fork out the dough for these exhausts anyways? They're loud, annoying, they're NOT stainless steel (the GT is) and they're over priced.

would the Megan turbo back be a better choise?.. i want an N1 style tip. and im not too concered about how much any of them cost.

i have the thermal catback and its a 3" inch pipe, the only place it necks down is the flange where it bolts to the cat. the only thing i dont like is the muffler. i wanna buy an N1 or HKS ti muffler and just weld to the pipe.

I also have a thermal and it only necks down at the flange to the cat.

+10 on the thermal, I also have it and in another thread I posted this info. It does neck down near the Cat Flange. The DP an cat were replaced with a 3" unit and the Thermal was wacked off were it necks down (less then a foot of it) and replaced with a 3" pipe and flange. Local exhaust shop charged around $40 for it. The Thermal is a VERY nice system. I see you are in ORL, I am in Winter Springs. If you want to check it out, drop me a PM.

ok..good new b/c i know ive seen some posts on here before about the Megar Racing exhaust for the gst.. i just got off the phone with them and i was told that there catback is 3" not 2.5".. so i was thinking about going with that one.. but i would like to here what others think about that turbo back system first...

do you know any shops that could make you a custom turbo back? Are you looking to go catless, or have a hi-flow cat?

I like the Apexi N1 system, but i still don't understand why they didn't make the catback a true 3" all the way back. The downpipe is a good buy though, 2.5" at the turbo to the flex, then 3" after. I bought my downpipe, flex section and flanges from Road Race and a 3" N1 style muffler on ebay. I took all my crap to a local exhaust shop, and he welded everything together, and provided the 3" piping from the flex back for 120. The total price for my turbo back was like 280, and I have the inner peace knowing it doesnt neck down.

ok, so i'm confused, i have a 3" N1 system and i' measured it where it all bolts together, its a true 3". where does it neck down? is is really in the resonator? i was thinking of cutting it out anyway but figured it was a waste of time,,, but if it really necks down inside that small resonater, then i'll do it
