I believe i have a manifold leak and i would like to know what it could cause, I say so because the manifold is held to the block by i believe 9 bolts and i am missing 2 of them.

You will probably experience a decrease in the performance of the car as the air that should be going into the engine is leaking out of the manifold. This will cause you to run slightly richer, and also may affect your idle slightly.

Your car isn't going to blow up or anything, but when all you need is two nuts/bolts to fix it, you really shouldn't skimp on something that easy :thumb:

You will also go thru manifold gaskets very quickly and the leak in the manfold could cause a boost leak if your boosted..You will get a nice smell of exhaust gases when the gasket goes

The manifold is bolted to the head, not the block. A pre-turbo exhaust leak will decrease the efficiency of your turbo, mainly in spool up.

Iam sorry to the head, thank you for all the replies, I will get that fixed as soon as possible.

Just thought i would point out that he's talking about his exhaust manifold...not intake :thumb: . But....if it were intake then you would be correct.

well...silly me and my assumptions :coy:

You loose alot of torque! i just drove my friends eclipse and his is stock just in mint conidtion and his stock t-25 pulls nearly twice as hard as my eclipse and the only problem that can come to mind is that leak i have inbetween the manifold and head.

I believe you will also recieve black smoke on your motor. When I figured out my exhaust manifold had a leak, I got it fixed right away. Makes the motor look black, while the rest of the head is clean looking.

when you replace ## manifold studs get ss. Thats what im gonna do because i don't want anymore broken studs. I got a broken stud in the head which sucks because i will need to buy that stud removal tool. I also was leaking exhaust fumes through my manifold til i did a quick temp fix which was just put high temp sealant where it was leaking and which is working pretty good.

Yea thats me i have a blacl streak of black smoke on my head, and the cockpit smells like exaust gas. I really hope this exaust leak is the answer to my torque problems.

What stud removal tool are you referring too? I was just going to use a normal extractor on mine.

the one that uses a special drill bit to drill out broken studs inside the head. i think they sell it in autozone
They sell a set of Craftsman at Sears. It really is a good tool to have, especially if you do a lot of mechanical work. And they are also relativly cheap.

Do not use the Craftsman kit to extract a stud broken inside the head, I have broken ones as prove and sears does not warranty those. Be sure to use the largest EZ out you can fit and make sure you drill deep enough for all the threads on the EZ out. Don't cheap out on this, I have a broken ez out tip in one of the stud on my old head, impossible to drill through. Remember you always have the final option of drill and re-tap for 10mm studs so don't force the issue, if you break the tip of the EZ out, you will most likely lose this final option.

wow why didnt i think of retaping it LOL thats a good idea, i sent my head to a machien shop to fix the studs, got it back when i put the manifold on i put it on hand tight and with a 1/4 turn with the ratchet it snapped. its only 1 stud but its on the corner,
its tuff to fit a drill in there so i ganna go with the retap, do u think theres any negatives?
