so i have a 97 gst eclipse, from what i have read i can use evoscan but not ecu flash which makes my tuning options only my s-afc. i know its possible to run it with a s-afc tho it will be pretty damn rich when not wot. My question is, what other options do i have available? it seem like im very limited in what tuning options i have, cant get dsm link atm cause i know that will come up.

Well you will need the h8 ecu aka the black box ecu if you wanna do flash that probably be the cheapest way. Next best thing really is ecmlink v3 lite if anything kinda pricey but my moto is you can have all the fancy go fast parts you want but without a proper tune it is nothing.

You could also just get someone to flash your ecu with a tune via ecuflash (someone close to you) using his wire and keep that tune once it's good. That way no need to pay for the wire and you can still check from now and then with evoscan to make sure everything is running well.

I need a 98/99 ecu for that tho correct? What/where would be a good place to get one? And would the price be worth just getting dsm link.

You will indeed need a 98/99 ecu to use ecuflash (GST/GSX won't matter only difference being GST has a speed cap on it, they are interchangeable). You can buy them in the classifieds/ebay between 100-150$ for the ecu and sell yours to compensate. It'll be cheaper to do ecuflash. Even if you bought the flash wire it'll cost you an extra 180$

For DSMlink you'd have to get your 97 ecu sent to get modded to work with the chip (not sure how much that is anymore), then buy dsmlink lite which is around 425$

With out a Openport 2.0 you can still log with relevantly inexpensive cables I include them with my Ecu's I sell as the logging is a bit slower with the OP 2.0 then other cables. But I won't get into much about my services in the forums though...

I will say these few things as they apply regardless... .

It wouldn't be a bad idea to log with Evo scan as is now to get familiar with it as the 97 ecus are a cross over and a lot of them you can log at the higher rate then the old ODB II over Mut that the 95-96 use...

So you can log 100's of samples a sec with many items like a h8 ecu, unlike the other ecus that your lucky to get 6-7 samples on 1 or 2 items.

I won't turn this into a Ecm/Dsmlink VS X thread as they are both great tuning options IMO... .

BUT, I will say that the H8 ecu with big maps flashed to them are the Highest resolution maps of any DSM Ems and the maps go quite a bit higher then v3 lite and just as high as Full with more resolution... As well of most of the negative comments from people about the Flashed Ecu route simply had trouble using the interfaces of the programs used not the actual ability of the ECU's(FYI they hold a very steady AFR and have better injector drivers then the previous ecu's) it just comes down to what GUI your comfortable using if your tuning yourself, as it's all just changing code in the end... Agian IMO
