-First off the turbo has 18k miles on it and he wants $400 is that a good deal or does it go for 350?

-Second My big Evo 3 16g is effed. so i was wondering if this would be a good turbo to get again

-Third Which is a better turbo and which is bigger the evo 3 or the evo 9 turbo.

yes i see that the wheels are different. but the exhaust sides will be opposite from each other to.
You are right, but you're not going to install one on a DSM unless the radiator has been completely removed:

no i have a NGR Type S. holds 30psi fine with no leaks

Also what would be a better turbo a
TDO5H MHI 20g internally wastegated or a
TDO5H Greddy 18g Internally wastegated turbo
 
I dont mean to :beatentodeath:, but as stated before, if you were ready to go into an undertaking suck as throwing a 20g on, then you should at least not have to ask questions such as these. I'm not saying myself or anyone else knows everthing by far, but by using the search function for this type of thing helps you help yourself instead of everyone else doing it for you. Just my .02.
 
Its not really that the turbos rotate in a different direction because the exhaust only goes in one way causing the turbo to rotate whatever was it needs to to allow the impeller (comp wheel) to suck in the air. its just that the turbo is flipped (the comp cover is on the drivers side instead of the pass side) which makes it difficult for IC piping and the intake setup if its on like an evo and allows very little room (for radiator, fans etc.) if its setup like in the picture that jusmx141 posted up.

i just needed to know the simple things such as if i took the 16g off of my car would i be able to throw the 20g on. since they are both internally gated and have the same turbine housing (TDO5H) then i can. I just had a couple small questions. doing it is not the problem. I do understand where your coming from though

No, they really do rotate the opposite way. If you're looking at the compressor wheel, one will rotate clockwise, the other counter clockwise. You can see the outlet scroll goes the opposite direction as well.

If you put the evo wheel and cover onto a DSM turbo it will rotate it the wrong direction and be very inefficient.

Wonder if someone like BEP could make a custom turbine housing that would allow you to bolt an evo turbo to a DSM. More expensive than a E3, but there's a lot of cool tech in the evos. Probably get in the way of the water pipe too.
 
-First off an Evo IV-IX turbo won't work on your car.

-Second; again, it won't work on your car....the inlet and outlet are on the wrong side, and the turbo rotates the wrong direction.

-Third the Evo IV-IX 16G has a larger compressor cover, but it doesn't matter because it won't work on your car.

some ppl believe in thinking outside the box.

Yeah really. Its better than starting a new, one. I could have but whats, the point? New thread "evo IX turbo on 2g it can.be done" no we already now it can be done using an.adapter but then there is a bunch of clearance issues and you need a tweeny honda rad. No thanks.

This is the right way and just like the evo 8 cams,in dsm thread that was full of impossibility that you couldn't. I turned it into a, very simple installation.

Now here is another thread full of the same stuff. Thats I'm shooting down because it isn't impossible to do without a ton of clearance problems. And if I can help it, it'll become just another installation guide.

Back ON topic: Details on this install, MJ?

This wasn't a complete install sorry. It was just a test fitting. Everything is bolt on. Manifold, turbo, o2 housing but I didn't try to bolt up the exhaust but it is bolt up as well. These are all custom parts. One of a kind as far as I know.

But it clears everything. I didn't try to put the a/c fan in place but there were only a few inches of clearance there. If anything a slim fan would be best. No problem fitting any if the radiator fans on the other side. Ill be,switching to a, spyder radiator though to putb the radiator hose just that much farther away from the header though it clearance by at least 4".

Fmic is required though so thats what I need before install. That and ecmlink. But for now reinstalled the good ole 14b.

I think it's pretty cool. Do you think the gains will be worth the fab work? Or were you just experimenting?

Itll be well worth it. For me its not much fab work really. I bought the kit for a really good price. It was previously on a stock 9.5:1 spyder engine. The spyder was converted to awd. This was by the kits maker. He said he had no real dyno numbers but it around 400ish and was beating ferarris and lambos.

This is believable as their are quite a few evos with this stock turbo pushing over 400 awhp. The evos run a 9:1 cr.

As,i stated everything is bolt on. Only clearance issue is the a/c fan which is not needed. and due to the position of the outlet pipe a fmic ixd pretty much required.

Only thing I didnt like Is the closeness to my oil filter. Clearance is about 1/2". so to solve that ill be using an evo8 ofh + oil pump.

Now to clarify this is actually the evo 9 tutbo. The evo 8 turbo has a smaller everyday housing than the evo9. But other that that they are the same.

Also with it being twin scroll spool time be better than an e3 16g. It is,well worth what paid for out.
 
Someone correct me if im wrong but im pretty positive the evo 9 turbo has a larger compressor and turbine wheel vs. the evo 8 turbo. The evo 9 turbo is a bad ass turbo definitely worth having if the kit was already made.

Rotating assembly is identical between the two turbos. The turbine housing, center housing, and compressor cover are different.

The Evo X 152G6 turbo is a standard-rotation TD05H with a 12cm twin-scroll turbine housing. All we'd need is for someone to produce a twin-scroll manifold that has an Evo X turbo flange and 4G63 head flange, and we'd have access to a standard-rotation twin-scroll turbo that is easily upgradeable to a 20G which fits tight against the block instead of an inch from the radiator. :D

It has already been done actually on an EvoI. However the guy is not willing to sell or reproduce what he did. I contacted him awhile back. he said it took him 40 hours to make it and it wasn't feasible for him to reproduce for a, price.

I think for most of us out there the cost and trouble of mounting an Evo 4-9 turbo in their DSM would outweigh buying something more bolt-on friendly like a bigger MHI turbo (i.e. 20g) or a Holset, which bolt-on friendly parts are more plentiful. Even if the cost was better, the Evo style turbo doesn't look like it offers much room in the way of radiator fans. I could be wrong.

I will say that the Evo 4-9 platform is great and I love the FP HTA Green and black turbos! So that would be fun on a DSM, twin scroll and all.

I didn't really "dig" it up. There was one that was started just,a few days ago I wa gonna post in but it got sent to the graveyard. Lol so I just searched and picked it out.

I'll make my own thread when I install it. I want to smooth a few parts of it out that I see would cause exhaust turbulence.

Turbo was free and I got the entire exhaust system for not much more than the cost of a twin scroll holset manifold alone.

I do plan to upgrade it to an fp black at some point. Or if I get rich by FPs new ball bearing black turbo for it.

The main reason I wanted to use this turbo was for the twin scroll. Additions are its upgrade capacities. My friend in florida upgraded this turbo to a 25g on his 2.4l build for his evo. At 18psi corn fed he was making 517awhp.

This kit on a stock 2.4l awd converted spyder made 400ish hp. End result of that experiment was a broken rod bolt due to the loads of torque it was making. They were running 22 psi on pump.

Also with this one there is plenty of room for fans on the stock rad. A/c might slip in there be close though. Slim fan would fit. On the other side theres all the room in the world (pass side fan location). You can use stock fan if you wanted.

it also leaves about 4" of clearance of rad hose so stock 2g rad would be fine. But im going to use spyder rad just to put it to the side to keep it farther away from the manifold.

O2 housing barely clears the oil filter(about 1/2") so ill be switching to evo8 forward having ofh and external cooler.

But this is really a bolt on kit with an fmic. You could make a U pipe to use side mount but this turbo is overkill for a smic.

Cant wait for the dyno numbers sir as this was something i too was thinking of doing to my dsm as well....I even found a manifold on ebay a while back that bolted right up to this turbo and our head but that idea was scapped when the car was sold.
